Hello, new member.

My wife and I are thinking about getting a trailer / 5th wheel. We think we like the Oliver Legacy II Elite. That's just from seeing it on the Internet. We'd like to see one in person.

I'd like to tow it with a diesel 4x4 Grand Cherokee, tow rating of 7200 lbs. That's just a little more than the Elite's GVWR of 7000 lbs.

We're thinking of an Airstream, Bigfoot, or an Escape also.

The Oliver Elite II has a dry weight of 4600 pounds. Unless you go crazy with options and gear, you should be able to keep it well under the 7000 pound GVWR. I suspect it will make a wonderful towing combination, but way out of my league!

If you like diesels, a Ram 1500 Ecodiesel paired with an Escape 5.0TA would have plenty of margin and the added towing stability of a fifth wheel set-up. But you'd be left driving a pickup when unhitched.

Escapes are lighter for their size than the Oliver but lack the high-end features: aluminum frame, insulated double hull, top-drawer hardware, four-season package. They are nice trailers nonetheless and a very good value.

Airstream... Hereabouts they're known as SOB- some other brand.
