Yes, tmannila! Great comments about where the north really is in our province. After living 17 years in Thunder Bay and visiting family in Southern Ontario nearly every year (and driving that great route mentioned between Tbay and the Soo), we really got tired of S. Ontario people being so ignorant of our province for e.g. Oh, you live in Thunder Bay, that's near Sudbury. No that's NORTH Bay. Thunder Bay is a long two day drive from Toronto and then another day west before you leave Ontario!

Now we were in Muskoka a few days ago and it certainly feels like the north, lots of rock and water but it's far from being in Northern Ontario. Now in just over two weeks I'll be driving right across this large province on our way moving from S.ON to MB.

Adrian

I lived in Bracebridge (in Muskoka), and we didn't call that Northern Ontario.

Now I live near Edmonton, Alberta, and we know that places south of the 49th parallel - like Timmins - are south.

I spent three days driving to Ontario a few years ago... then another three days driving through Ontario. Lots of nice scenery.

Welcome, Therese

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.

Where is the dividing line between Near North and Northern Ontario? Is it the French River?
I think the dividing line is the Soo for northern Ontario, Near North would be Barrie.
