Hi, I am...

My husband and I have visiting this group trying to search for used Casitas. We have recently been talking to the factory to order a new one. We have learned a lot about our options from this group. We are trying to make final decisions before dec 16 when the sale may end. Here is one of our questions. We are tenters, new to rvs. My husband is 6'4". We thought we wanted the 17' independence for the king size bed, but thought the loss of a table area would be difficult on rainy days. We thought we could go without the bathroom gaining the front for couch adding a table. The compromise might be the liberty, where we might be able to have the table and bathroom, but we expect that we will want to keep the bed continuously made up. We are hoping anyone with experience might comment on any of their experience that might aid in our descions. Thank you.

It may depend on how much you plan to camp, and where, and when. Will inside dining be a frequent event, or just the occasional bad weather day? For us it's the latter, and changing the bed into a dinette is not a big deal. I'm thinking with the Independence you could roll or fold enough of the bedding toward the back of the trailer to make a seating space near the kitchen.

I'd hesitate to give up the bathroom. For one thing, it's pretty much obligatory in that size class, so resale would be harder. For another, traipsing to the bathhouse several times during the course of a nasty day (or, worse, at night) sounds less appealing to me than the trouble to move and replace the bedding. And for a third, the ability to camp occasionally without facilities can be a convenient (as well as a cost-saving) option.

Thank you

Thank you for your input. The resale and bethroom is well noted. As tenters we are used to going to restroom facilities in the rain, but I'm thinking maybe not for extended or cross country trips... nearly there for desisions...sometimes it just takes another pair of ears... thanks.

We don't have a bathroom, so we are used to the restroom trek, too. But we are short-trippers in (mostly) fair weather, and to fit 4 in a 13'er, the bunks were essential.

When it's down to my wife and I, and as midnight runs become more common, a bathroom is sounding better and better. I guess we could carry a porta-potty, but my wife insists on an enclosure at a minimum.

Becky. just an FYI, Casita 17 foot trailers have a 6'1" interior. and that's without an air conditioner. Have you checked out the Scamps? They have a 6'3" interior without an air conditioner. DC.

I'm pretty sure the OP landed on the Casita Independence because of the bed length, which, at almost 7', no Scamp can match.

FWIW, my post-fire Scamp 13 also specs 6'3" of interior headroom, but my measurements make it more like 6'1.5" at best (without AC).
