Hi, I am a proud new (to me) Boler owner

Hi, my name is Aimee. I've been lurking for a while, but I decided I should finally introduce myself and my camper! After searching for a used camper for 6-8 months, I finally found a Boler 1700 that fit the bill... the only problem was it was in BC, and I'm in Texas.

Long story short, a few months after flying up to inspect and buy it, my boyfriend, Sam, and I took a 2-month journey back to get it and then the long way home down the coast.

I was disappointed to just barely miss all the rallies along our route! Hope to catch you all at the next one in our area.

We're currently working on an Isuzu Rodeo to get it prepped to tow, and then I'll start thinking about some work on the camper. She's in decent shape, but I'm sure there's some tune up that needs to happen, and I'd like to customize it a bit. Thanks for all the great resources! It's already been incredibly helpful so far.

Welcome (back) to the forum Aimee.

Two months sounds like the ideal way to "dash" up to the northwest and back.

That's a great trip along the coast. I have tent-camped and moteled it over the years. Now I am looking forward to revisiting in a travel trailer.

I'm sure the 30% difference in currency helped offset a great deal of the expense lol

Ha! Yes, the trip was expensive. We did get a more than fair deal, but the trip was worth it in and of itself.

Thanks, Dave! Here's a few photos as she sits before we get started on any remodels. It's PINK. The first order of business is a power wash and new coat of paint! We'll take our time getting to the inside, so we can detail and make sure everything's up to spec - likely a new floor, definitely new wiring, plumbing updates where needed, hopefully solar...

The mechanical parts of the trailer are in good condition, but I guess we'll find out more as we go. She drove great on the way home. I figured we'd start by running through the handy checklist that I found here!

People said I was crazy to drive from Central VA to the far side of Chicago to Round Lake, IL to get my 83 Burro, but what are you gonna do? You've got to buy the egg where it gets laid (pun intended!)

Driving there and back by myself in my old 2000 Astro AWD during the high gas prices about 5-6 years didn't make it any easier, but I've never regretted doing it at all. If you enjoy your Boler just half as much as I've enjoyed my Burro, you'll never look back.

Regards,
Froggie

Those were my thoughts exactly! The search range kept expanding. Once it opened up to most of the United States, it was like, 'Well, let's at least make this a great trip!'

Thanks for the best wishes, Froggy!

I certainly wasn't critizing you or running you down. I think you had an amazing trip and I have been temped to do the same things. Wait a minute! I have bought 2 cars and a truck under the same conditions.

Why is we cannot find a bargain locally at least I never could! By the way I like that pink paint no doubt you will do in green or gray!

One question are you spraying or rolling? How are you going to mask everything are you to that point yet?

thanks

bob

One additional aspect about my transaction (and the Odyssey it involved) was that the previous owner did all he could to underdescribe the condition of his Burro... he didn't want me to drive all the way up there and be disappointed. I had owned an old aluminum skinned stickie that had rotted out to the point of literal collapse on one corner, so I had gotten very serious about finding a replacement. Fortunately, I'm a bachelor and needed my camper to use as a base of operations at Fort Shenandoah for North-South Skirmish Association events. Rough inside is fine since I track in dust in the dry and mud in the wet (frequent) so having it too nice would actually be a disadvantage. I just need a place to sleep and get out of the weather.

I guess you could say I'm a happy camper!

buting trips

frogee one thing I find about trailer sellers they are completely honest unlike car sellers. Why is that?

I like to never found our A-Liner a guy listed one in Chicago I called him he told me all about it he sounded real and honest I mailed him a deposit. I told him to call me when he got it he did I loaded up the 2002 cadilac and the wife and off we went 10 hours away! We were not disappointed in any way. Handed him our cash and away we went.

Next had big-time back surgery had to get something different we found the 13f scamper yes 10 hours away. same deal called the guy sent a deposit drove there handed him the rest of cash off we went. Spent the night at a casino did I also say I am cheap!

next now we listed the A-Liner they are hard to find ours was 1/2 price of anything listed guy from Dallas Tx called same deal he came looked it over handed us the balance and off he went!

This fiberglass trailer thing is simply amazin!!!! Amazin people in it too!

No worries at all, Bob! No offense taken. I don't know if I've told a single person who didn't think it was a little crazy. And I wouldn't try to convince them otherwise!

For us, we knew we were looking for specifically a Boler. (Thanks to trailer weights in the real world!) They're pretty scarce in Texas, but it's true! Even the local bargains seemed to be snatched up in a matter of hours.

We're going to be spraying. Hadn't considered masking yet. Any tips or wisdom would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Aimee
