Hi I am Cindy

I joined since I'm researching FG trailers, and am a big fan of RV Sue. But, I really like the new Ollies

I currently drive a Winnie 25' moho; no slides, and pull a Honda Element toad.

But I do believe I will go FT soon, and I already know the Winnie is not 4 season, nor will my 10 year old car last forever.

I asked a question here on the forum in 2 other threads re: hot weather camping in either an Ollie, or Casita...I'd have to be assured if I was to stay in extreme hot weather for any reason that I'd be able to keep it cool...AND not have the AC freeze over like it does in my moho.

If any of you has real-world info on that...I'd greatly appreciate it!

There is no 'assurance' that an RV AC unit won't freeze. Freeze up can happen to any RV Air Conditioner if the situation is right. High heat and high humidity will make it more prevalent. There are a few things you can do to help prevent it:

- Keep the intake filters CLEAN.
- High Heat and High humidity means the fan should be on HIGH.
- Set the thermostat to a moderate setting - not as cold as you can get it.
- Ventilate when you cook or shower by opening a roof vent. If humidity is built up in the trailer, it will wind up in the AC unit, and it can condense and freeze.
- Check the condenser every season. Look for debris or damage. If the fins are bent, use a radiator comb to straighten them back out.
- If the fan squeals or makes an uneven sound, it may need replacing. Bad fans can also (sometimes) cause a freeze up.

If it freezes up, turn the fan on high but AC off. Give it some time and the ice will melt - hopefully, before you do.

We own a 16 ft. Scamp, and the AC is wonderful. Once cool, it must be turned down on the scale from 1-10, must be set at 5 and the fan to low!

Thank you All...

I discovered the freezing up problem within 3 weeks of buying the rig, and took it to service right away. No, problems like what's mentioned here. Also, the only time it happens is during the night, in AZ summer....no other places during summer.

This is also the only RV I've had....out of 4 that has ever done it. Very disappointing.
