Hi, I am Jay in MA

Good morning everyone! My name is Jay, I live in Massachusetts. I am in the market to purchase a 13' fiberglass trailer (partial to Uhaul CT-13 but not limited). My greatest challenge is that I need a small trailer to tow with my current vehicle (RAV 4). Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. I know one day I will be reaching out with lots of "how do you" type questions.

All the best,

Jay

Welcome Jay
Good luck on your hunt for a small fiberglass trailer. Be careful as they can be addictive!

Depends which RAV 4 you have. Some have a puny 1500 pound tow rating. That makes towing any molded FG trailer quite challenging. Others have a rating of as high as 3500 pounds. At that rating, lots of FG trailers work.

Molded FG trailers are relatively rare, UHauls even rarer. The UHaul floorplan is not so unique that other trailers may suit you fine.

On the small end, Scamp 13 is the most plentiful on the used market. Most of the vintage brands are no longer made. I wanted a Trillium 1300, there were less than a half a dozen for sale across the USA in the last year. Made finding one difficult (and more expensive).

Trailers with a bathroom tend to be heavier for a given size.

Jay, you could make every effort to see Mary and Bob's uhaul FGRV. They are quite rare.
I wish all of you great good luck! May this work out well.

Jay,
Where in MA do you live? I live on Cape and just bought a new Scamp13 from the factory in Backus MN. If you get in touch with Scamp they can refer you to someone close by that has a Scamp 13 to give you an idea of what a new Scamp would look like. There are 4 different layouts to choose from and they can be customized to suit you. Call scamp at 800-346-4962

1725 of the 13 footers were built. Currently there are just a little over 400 registered on the Uhaul Facebook group. I'm hoping the rarity drives the prices up, but of course there is much more to consider in an older trailer. They did not have brakes, weigh about 1250 empty. We towed with a 2003 Honda CRV until buying a full size truck when we bought the Casita 17. We are probably about 3 hours from Jay, so doable for a look see if he desires. Not advertising ours for sale yet, maybe in the spring after a couple upgrades are done.

Looks like some good leads already! I prefer the vintage trailers with fiberglass cabinets and no rivets, like the U Haul. Just a personal choice. But they look so good! I don’t have the budget for an Oliver.

Hey Jay, Welcome to the group. I want to extend an invitation to you to come to the Spring Fling in New England Rally in Chocorua NH this coming May.
If you have a trailer by then or even if your still looking it would be a great chance to see many models and talk to the owners on our Shine and Show date of Saturday, May 18th at 9:00am.
You can check out the whole schedule of events under the rally heading above. or the link here.
http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...and-86962.html
Hope you can make it.
We'll all want to see your new "EGG".
