Hi I'm Eric,

I am Eric and my wife Pam and I are retired and have ordered a Scamp. We are looking forward to the information from those who have already been down this road.

Welcome, Eric and Pam, and congratulations on the new Scamp! We enjoy ours a lot. What version did you order, and when's the hatching?

We will pick it up week Jan 15. On order is a 13, but I am thinking about seeing if they can put the extended bed into the 16 layout 4. Currently they don't, but I think they should be able to without a lot of trouble, there is a countertop they could shorten and it would work. I'm going to call the sales office tomorrow and see. We just came back traveling with two of our Grandchildren and were thinking the bunk beds might be nice to take them along. But we don't want to give up the bathroom.

Bunk beds (as a sofa) also give you a place to sit if you leave the bed made up. Its really nice to have a separate place to sit!

A lot of folks wish they would put the 54" bed in one of the standard 16'ers (including me!).

It would probably only work in the side bath models, and they would have to make new molds for the galley modules. With fiberglass, you can't just hack them off. Since the 13' model is their most popular and the 16' side dinette next most popular, there isn't a lot of incentive for them to rework the less-popular side bath model. But I keep hoping.

The deluxe models all have a 54" bed. So if you really want a 54" bed in a 16'er...

A Chrysler T & C is equivalent to the Honda Odyssey; of which we had three for towing our 16 DLX Scamp. V6 engines.
You will need a high rise ball mount for the hitch as the vans sit a bit low.
And try to get a ball mount that sits as close to the rear bumper as possible. I had to drill a new hole for the pin to shorten a stock mount.

Your new Scamp

Suggest you pick the trailer with amenities you really want...I put my grandkids in a tent next to my Scamp..they love it...when they were too young for the tent or in bear country, they "camped" in my SUV.
