Hi, My name is Heather. I am an interior decorator at The Best Nest Decor.ca, blogger at Fabrictherapy.ca, and mother of three crazy children. I am saving my pennies for a vintage trailer that can be pulled by a smaller vehicle but still fit my family of five (possibly six in the future). I don't even know if this is possible but while I save up I'm keen to do research and learn more about fiber glass trailer options. I'm hoping to find something in original condition that I can beautify and adapt to function well for my family. I'm looking forward to many long family road trips in the future and can't wait to find a trailer to suit my family's needs. I'm looking for something under $10,000 so if you know of anything let me know! Thanks for welcoming to the community!

Best plan for a trailer and a tent for the kids. The only way I can see for your crowd, especially under $10,000.
Kids would rather have their own room anyway.

Or (hate to say it here) go with a stickie, maybe a hybrid (with tented sleeping areas that extend out one or both ends). As Glenn says, finding a molded-fiberglass trailer that will sleep six for under $10k is a tall order.

A Scamp 16, layout 7, or a Casita 16/17 Spirit Standard both sleep five, and you might squeeze three small kids in the dinette bed to make six. However, both are fairly rare on the used market. Theoretically, the Casita can be ordered with both side bunks and front bunks, but I have yet to see one built that way. Upper bunks are typically weight-limited, though in Scamp's case there is no official word on what that limit is.

An alternative to a tent for overflow is the tow vehicle. Some fold fairly easily to make a flat place to sleep. It's not clear from your original post what you have in mind- "smaller" can mean different things to different people. Our girls sleep in the back of our Pilot sometimes.

Tent trailers are more trouble to set up and tear down, especially in the rain, but they do provide a lot more space for the weight. I've always liked the vintage Apache hard-side folding trailers. Thought about trying to snag one of those? They're out there, and they seem to have somewhat of a cult following not unlike vintage eggs.

And now I have! Unfortunately, someone else just bought it. Thought I'd share so you know what it looks like. It's a 1989 Casita 16 Spirit Standard with the side bunk option. The picture doesn't show the upper bunk on the side, but it's still in place, according to the owner. I wonder what a new one would run? I believe Casita will still build this model, though I think they rarely do.
