Hi, I'm Woody

Reason I joined: this site came well-recommended.
Pertinent stats: Recently widowed (37 years together). 67. Retired. Fixed income. Selling my home. Plan to travel some. Sold on fiberglass by my brother's Scamp and my friend's Casita.
Me and my Pomeranian companion plan on living in it for the foreseeable future, so I need one (a) I can pull behind my '02 Jeep Wrangler, and (b) with all the necessities: shower/toilet, stove, refrigerator, microwave, air conditioning. Fixer-upper is OK, as long as the basics work. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome, Woody! So sorry to hear of your wife's passing.

Some Wranglers have a pretty limited tow rating. What is yours rated to tow?

It is possible to have everything you want in a 13' Scamp (1800-2000#). Most people opt for something in the 16-17' range. A lighter unit like a Scamp 16 can be towed by a vehicle with a 3500# rating. The popular but heavier Casita 17 typically requires a vehicle rated 5000# or larger.

There is actual on-the-road weight data in the "Trailer Weights in the Real World" thread in the General Chat section. That's a great place to start.

Best wishes!

Welcome, Woody-- sincere sympathy on the loss of your wife.

Your Pom has some prodigious fangs. Oh, wait...!

Best luck getting set up. If you wanted to drop by Dash Point on September 23 this fall (you can park your car in the overflow parking lot for $5 a day, I believe) you can partake of the SAG (1st ever), Seattle Area Gathering, and tour the open house of fiberglass rigs and after 2 PM let Pom enter the dog events (a parade, costume display, tricks--prizes awarded)...and maybe share in a potluck meal with us. We have 7 or 8 rigs attending and some walk-ins as well. Since you're in Washington and all...

Reglardless, welcome to FGRV and I hope you find the right egg for you!

BEST
Kai
