Hi new scamp owner here!

Hi my name is Brandon, my wife and I recently bought a 13' scamp. And we are enjoying it so far Although it could be a bit larger lol. I have lurked around for awhile and found some really great info, i figured it was time to become a member. I hope to make it to some gatherings and meet some of you!

Welcome Brandon! My wife and I are new to this as well. I lurked for a loooong time before becoming a member. There is plenty of good camping where you're from, and at least a couple of Rally's up there. Joanne and I went to one in Algonac, MI and also the Land Between the Lakes (LBL) Rally on the KY and TN border last week. I don't think you'll find a friendlier crowd than those who attend these gatherings. Same thing on the forum. Plenty of people that will answer your questions and guide you along the way.

Hello Brandon and Tom,
I'm a new member to the forum. I've just ordered a Scamp and expect to take delivery on it in the early spring. Since Brandon is located in Minnesota can he advise me on the typical weather up there around end of April, early May? It's gonna be a long winter waiting here in New Jersey. I hope to be a full timer and frequent poster.
Thanks

Hi CharlieWhiskey, I'm a little south of there, near Chicago. I can tell you it will be cooler than Jersey. There is often ice in April on the lakes in N. MN. I remember pike fishing there in April a long time ago, and we had to break the ice. May should be better, but not sure if you'll find many campgrounds open there before Memorial Day. I'm sure some Minnesotans will chime in. It's a pretty state. Good luck on the waiting! I predict a long cold winter for you. We ordered in Jan and picked it up in Aug. That was the longest 8 months ever! The last couple months anticipation was brutal. Welcome aboard!

Hello Tom. I exchanged comments with you a few weeks ago. I only recognized you when you signed off as Tango-Kilo. Last winter in Jersey was terrible and bitter cold. Since my towing experience has been limited to a pop-up, I want to wait for optimum weather to take delivery on my Scamp 16, layout 6. It's been fun meanwhile mapping itineraries on the Good Sam website and another I just found, can't recall the name. I found a thread on the forum authored by a fellow from PA with photos. Looks like he got the same model I'm getting. Looking forward to making some interesting posts on this forum next year.
Best regards,
CharleyWhiskey (Carl William S.)

I spent 40 years in the Army, Carl. Nobody uses the military phonetic alphabet except the military and prior service. When I see your forum name, I can't resist using it myself. I often sign my personal email like that.

You're going to love your trailer. It will be well worth the wait. I don't blame you for waiting for better wx. My wife and I went to Backus in Jan to look Scamp over and put our order in. It was 20 degs. below zero, and most of WI and MN were in the middle of a blizzard. We were hoping to move in the summer, so chose Aug for a pick-up date. The move didn't happen, so we had a long wait. The kind people on this forum helped make the time go by quicker. Take care.

Tom

As a long time Minnesotan all I can tell you is the weather from April to May is a crapshoot. Sometimes the emphasis is on crap. Since March is typically our snowiest month it is not that uncommon to have a foot of snow remaining through April. Though somewhat rare we have also had Aprils with temps in the 80's. That said it has a beauty all its own and the state is geared for it. Life goes on, people put on another layer, roads are generally clear and you shouldn't have much of a problem getting to Backus. I just wouldn't plan on any camping.

thanks guys we kinda purchased our scamp spur of the moment, i found it for cheap and local and had to have it. So far ive updated the wheels/tires and removed the propane, only because we werent going to used it. First trip out we had some heavy rain and found a leak from the roof vent, unsure if its a problem or just wasnt latched all the way. It is well used but in great shape. I am torn between simply refurbishing or gut and remodel..

Sweet 80's Scamp Brandon. I have been "refurbishing" my 87 Scamp in Saint Paul with projects oscillating between small and large.

As a fellow Minnesnowtan, the good news about the small size is that it's so easy to keep warm! We've camped when it's slightly below/right around freezing at night and been quite toasty inside.

Thanks, Sid. In planning my trip back to New Jersey I noted some private RV parks that are open May 1st where I had intended to spend a night or two. I'm hoping that whatever the weather they will be open and accessible.
Take care
