A fogger...brilliant idea. The meltdown i have over bugs is just comical. And yes i know that doesn't sound like a seasoned campers reaction lol but i'll never change.

waving back like crazy... looks like I'm late to the party! Nice looking Scamp, but it has to be late 1970s or early 1980s. Windows are the give-away.

I see Francesca tried to provide a link to decode the VIN, but I just get a picture of your Scamp when I click it.

Try this one: Decode Scamp VIN

I text the wife and asked about the title...this is what she text back.

The title says 2001 year model vin # is 157r131081d010531

I'm going to have to try to decode and then compare the title to the vin on the Scamp. Doh gah!!

Don't let the windows fool you. Jalousie windows were an option in 2001. I don't have them on my 2001 but at the first campout I went to there was a 16 footer with jalousie windows. I was surprised when I asked the year of their trailer. It was a 2001 just 2 weeks old.

Scamp continued to offer the jalousie windows for several years into the early 2000's, before discontinuing them and only offering the sliders. Then just a few years ago they started offering jalousies again but they are the new version with the louvre section in the middle of the window. The entire window doesn't open as the old ones did.

My question is does this trailer has rectangle tail lights or round ones. If it's round ones then it's definitely older than the 2000's.

Okay, so the next question about the year is if it has Ensolite in the interior or Rat Fur? And yes, Scamp offer jalousies later than 1987, but I believe they were black anodized aluminum rather than silver. At least the 2001 16' Scamp I saw (Jerry's & Velma's) had black anodized full jalousies.

Joy you make a good point but there are a few other things about the trailer that stand out to be as indicating its a number of years older than 2001.

1 is the tail lights - zoomed in on the ad and they appear to be the old wedding cake style.

2 the old Scamp tree logo on the side - when did they stop using that? I know its no where on my 92.

3 - The AC in the closet - Scamp hasnt put them in the closest for a number of years but not sure when they stopped.

The tail lights are round. I definitely remember that.

And a somewhat duh question...forgive me. Ensolite...is it white and kinda squishes when you push on it? That's what is on the inside.

Hum the decoder for the vin only goes to 1990 wondering if the letter between the 8 and d is really an I and not a 1 which would make it a 1987....

Rat fur is a very fuzzy fabric on the walls - if not rat fur it will have wall covering that is a bit like vinyl and smooth.

See my note above re the serial number - the windows, tail lights and logo and the ensolite all suggests its a 1987 not a 2001 which IMHO is big difference but as someone pointed out the price if you look at what that age group of trailer goes for on Fiberglass-rv-4sale.com isn't out of that range.

Did you take an inside photo by chance - the colour & pattern of the fabric on the cushions will be another big give away as to the year.

Yes HUGE difference!!! I'm getting a headache. What a pain to learn this. Gotta make a decision.

Carol, my 2001 has the A/C in the closet. I'm going to say they continued offering them there for a good half dozen years into the 2000's, if I recall correctly.

As for the tree decal it is a decal they used way back when, however there are folks in recent years that have purchased some of those decals from the factory and put them on. So they are not a give away to the age of the trailer. In fact with the changes people are inclined to make to their trailers different items can be deceiving.

There are folks out there that don't like the red decal so they order the gold, which is for the Deluxe models, and put them on. One would deceived by just looking at the exterior of the trailer.

I asked about the trailer lights because that could be a decider but then there are folks who have put round LED lights on which give the appearance of the old round style lights. Just food for thought.

The VIN is the best measure.

I'd go buy it. Provided, of course, that the VIN's match. At $2500.00, and given the overheated state of the market, what's not to like?

That's assuming of course that it hasn't already been sold to somebody else...there are at least TWO more threads started today by folks who think they're buying a Scamp in North Carolina!

Francesca

I love love love the Scamp. I will buy it. But I will always be disappointed to learn that I may have been deceived. The red Scamp logo is down the other side. I can't think of any other things to add except the cushions and curtains are navy...I'm not sure if different colors are made for different years. They are not the original owners. They bought it from a local Camping World type place. It has the wrought iron looking brace on the counter...white.

As for the brace, they only recently started using white ones. They were black for many many years.

People that like the white ones have been changing them lately. Or maybe this trailer did have one and should have. It is a brace.
