Hi! We're Trent and Debbie from Calgary, AB, CAN

Good day!
We are proud new owners of a used 1986 Bigfoot B17(?). Its our first trailer and we are quite new at it. We plan on giving her a good work out this summer but we've got a lot to learn. Like maintenance, upgrades, winterization, etc. If any one has some online resources or links to info we'd appreciate it!

Can anyone shed some light on our specific model? Things we should be aware of and such? How to get the most out of it? Improvements, modifications and the like!

Glad we found this community! Hope we can contribute as much as we receive.

Cheers.

First off: Welcome Trent and Debbie! I am also from Calgary. In fact, there are several members, and at least on Mod from Calgary.

I have no personal experience with Bigfoot. I was about to pull the trigger on a Bigfoot 19 when my first Trillium presented itself at 2/5 th the price. What research I have done, and many happy Bigfoot owners testimonial, says that they are quality trailers.

Smile An actual answer

Unless the PO presented you with the receipts of recently performed maintenance, you should:

Have the bearings checked and repacked if needed.

Have the brakes checked and necessary work done.

Have the frame checked for rust/cracks etc.

You have checked all running lights for operation, I trust.

Welcome to FGRV.

Welcome Trent and Debbie!! We've been around the forum for 9 months or so but just brought our first Fiberglass trailer home today!! All safely backed into the driveway.

Looks like you both are going to have a fun time this summer and for years to come.
Never know we may end up in the same campground some day. We are over in Washington State and have plans to do a trip to Glacier National Park and then up through Alberta and across to BC. That won't happen for a couple more years though.
Happy days to come!

Congratulations!
At first sight photos give good look.
According to the first photo you seem to have found it at a dealer of caravan...

Probably that the dealer has already made a general check before exposing it on its ground.
But what I found of very interesting on this site, if you do not still have it, it's Buyers Check List " http: // The Fiberglass RV Community / buy-sell.html " who is useful for us as much before the purchase as later.

Having discovered the weak points, if there is, further to this list, you will find very certainly answers on this site, full of people ready of managing us towards a solution.

Good rides.

Are you sure it is a 1986? I'm thinking it might be a little older.
Nice looking trailer. Just noting a number of different things than my 86.

nice....

the outside looks "flawless"...somebody did a nice job of removing all the old graphics...really nice looking...

as far as models/years.....recent discussions here tend to support the idea that before 89 or so BF offered 17s in one floorplan only (17G...for "gaucho") and with different levels of trim/options (it looks like yours does not have a shower...is there a water heater in the unit?)

after that date there was only one level of trim/options (standardized) including an all FG bathroom with shower....there was however two floorplans available the 17G and the 17CB (for center bath)

if you did buy it from a dealer.....good for you....yeah, maybe you paid a little more...but if something really wierd comes up you'll have some recourse...Cheers and happy camping, F (below is my floorplan and bathroom with a few changes/add-ons)

Thanks to all who replied!

Pretty sure its an 1986 and after Deb's redecor efforts, we have ourselves a modern little space on wheels! We kept the original upholstery but painted everything on the inside. Amazing what some time and effort can do! I told her its almost too nice to camp in!

Next will come updated light fixtures, inside and out, and well, that's about it!
