Ed, it sounds to me like you want to go with Option # 1, go for it.

No insulation ??

Thanks! I will take keep taking pics as I go along.

Just wondering what kind of insulation people are talking about in the interior of the boler??? I don't have any insulation on mine, it just looks like fiberglass on mine. Is there some kind of insulation I should be spraying on??

Any idea??

I seem to remember that some the original Boler's, the flat-tops, had no insulation. They were recalled later to have the Ensolite added.

I think this is probably somewhere in RoyInTO's Boler History thread which unfortunately I can't find just now!!

Nice work so far BTW!

Does anyone know or have a conversion piece for a boler to make the front a dinette?
Thinking of converting the front to have 2 seats and table.

Thanks Ed

Welcome

Thanks for the pictures and welcome to the site Ed. Seeing you are in Saskatchewan you are not too far from our Manitoba Vintage and Fiberglass Camper Rally in Aug. 17-19. It is in the Upcoming Rally Forum
You can pick up some great ideas and projects at the rally, hope to see you there.
Roland

Thanks, Brian (fairly new to the boler life)

Hi Brian; Thanks.

Yes, there was an existing ledge under the window (both ends actually) that I beefed up and then trimmed with varnished 1/4" Birch ply.

The seating and front area was framed out with 1 x 2's and covered with 1/4 ply. Sections in the tops open for access to storage and the door side holds the porta-potty. Again, accessed by lifting a section of the top.

Pretty simple. As my woodworking skills are limited.

Here's a couple that shows the construction.

I hate to repeat myself but I really like that. Hope you don't mind if I steal some of your ideas, haha. Is your bottom piece of wood just screwed down to the fiberglass floor? In mine I have a square piece of tin under the center of the front seat and I was going to take it out but I'm not sure if that will leave a hole thru the bottom or if there is fiberglass under that.

My woodworking skills are limited too and I have to rebuild the counter where the sink and fridge normally are.

Go ahead and use whatever works. I copied the idea from a bunch of others who boldy went before!!!

Yes, I just screwed the framework down to the floor, which is ply - no fiberglass there. Don't know about the tin, none in mine.

Just a note - I used 3/8 ply on the seating sufaces for strength.

Good luck with yours. Post pics!!

Thanks again for the input. I will definately post pics of the before, during and after process. I'm hoping to get out to my parents cabin next weekend to do some measuring and to try to come up with some sort of game plan. I'm thinking I might have to start with redoing the insulation first unless I start with the seating and counter first leaving enough space behind to add insulation at a later date. Still not sure what to do for insulation but thanks to Kevin for the ideas and videos.

Vin

Hello, did you ever find the VIN#? I just bought a 1970 Boler, and I can't find the VIN#. I've looked over the frame in front and do not see it. Any idea?
thanks,
Troy in Pennsylvania

Hi Troy, welcome to FiberglassRV. I don't own a Boler... but, have you check the tongue area thoroughly... it MAY be under layers of paint (the one on mine was!). BTW: don't forget to change your profile... you're an owner!

Thanks Donna, I have a feeling that it is under a couple layers of paint.
