Thumbs up Just bought a Boler year ??

Hi,.... I just purchased a Boler.

I was able to pick up this boler because the guy told me if I was going to keep it as a camper and not turn it into an fishing shack then he'd sell it to me. I totally want to restore it and since its my first camper I have a few questions.

I was wondering if someone could help me out. Im a bit confused, its registered as a 1972 Boler but from what I've seen from pics of a '72 its different. The roof is flat and the back light are not recessed. So then just wondering what year it really is??

Congratulations! You have already found out how much we like our Bolers. Someone sold my wifes cousin in BC one because there were others in the family already.

Pictures would tell the whole story but flat roofed Bolers were only made in the first year of production[1968]. If yours is one of them then you have a rarity amoung Bolers. Check your frame very carfully as the first years had a lightly built one and they were prone to break.

Inside is in nice shape, everything is there but
planning on gutting it and redoing.

Where can I find the original registration number??
If it's a 1968 instead of a '72 I'd like to know

Welcome to Fiberglassrv and the Boler family!

I agree it's an early one. The VIN should be on the frame in the front but that won't tell you anything.

I would love to see picture of the inside. How far are you going to gut it?

I'll have to check the frame out.. I'll post some interior pics

We'll was planning on frame up restore. Powder coating the frame etc.
My original plan was to turn it into a Harley Davidson boler - custom paint, custom interior, new windows, mock up axle -see if I can put 22" rims on it.

Now im wondering if it's a orginal 1968 flat roof then might restore it back to original colors. Any ideas???

ooooooh a flat top Boler! There are few of those that have survived! IMHO and I mean that truly... make the mods, etc. for YOU. These trailers (while old) are not currently "classics." 99% of the people seeing the trailer would'nt know an "original" from one that is famously modded. Face it, back in the days of original manufacturing, there wasn't Fantastic Fans, 3-way frigs or LEDs. As long as you make "professional" mods using "professional" techniques using "professional" changes, you'll be fine. If you are capable of doing a GOOD job, go for it! But, don't butcher it up....

In 1968 they made 100 of the flat toped Bolers. Yours seems to be one of them. The door handle looks right. Your lightweight frame members also look right for a '68. If you can find a VIN, possibly on a front frame member, it may tell you. The early ones were numbered in sequence.
I like Donna's idea. Update it, paint it, put it on a decent frame and make it yours but keep the structure correct.

If the guy said not to turn it into a fishing shack, I don't think a Harley hauler would make him happy either. If you're going to cut the **s end open to make a toy hauler out of it you should sell it but if you're just going to put a cool Harley paint job on it that would be awesome.

Ummm keeping it as a trailer no toy hauler. Go with more of a cool HD paint job and theme inside & out. Was able to pressure some of the outside paint n it's an autobody finish underneath (lower half) in green.

Penny are you asking about Bolerama? Are you a member? If so, click the green button that says something about "start reading," then in whatever forum you want to post, you'll see a hyperlink that says "post new." It's on the left in the navigation area.

Hope this helps.

Hi Penny
Bolerama [www.bolerama.org]is another free trailer site. It's mainly for Boler enthusiasts but if you ask your questions here you will find that many of those members are members here too. So just ask away.

Hey Ed congrats on the Boler. I just picked up #183 ('69 flat top). Having the same dilemma, restore or renovate. Mine is pretty close to original minus a bit of wear and tare. I'm thinking it might be an excuse to have two. Scamp still sells some original parts if your going for restore. What did you decide?

Well still undecided... just wondering if it's going to be worth more of less depending if I restore it to original or custom it up. haha well might have to buy another just to have two....

Right now I just have it in the shop, powerwashed it and going to sand it all down and gut the interior. If I do it as a restore or custom I'll do it from ground up.

Option #1
Since we have a shop Im going to see if I can custom fit (sink in) in 22" Harley davidson rims off the 2008 Ford f150. Check out frame, mock it up and powder coat it. Get some new windows (black framed) sliders and go from there. Custom it out with paint HD styling through out - stainless, floor, new fridge, small plasma, led lighting, waterjet out back bumper with led lighting " how i bole " etc.... have alot of ideas... haha

Option #2
Just strip it, paint it up as original, just with a few new options but make it original.... just new.

Its going to be my winter project on and off....

OPTION #1 or #2 .... that is the question .......
