Smile Just joined. Looking to buy/learn from others

Hello everyone,

I'm coming from Ithaca, NY (close to Syracuse) and look forward to discussing tips and suggestions for tow travel. I'm looking to buy a used 13ft Scamp with bathroom if anyone has connections. I also just joined fiberglass-rv-4sale.com. Looking forward to connecting with you.

Welcome to the group Rachel.
Let's go over a few basic questions about your quest for a Scamp

What will you be towing with? A Scamp with bath is deceptively heavy.

Have you ever been inside a 13' Scamp with bath. Many find them very crowded with only two on board. We sold ours for that very reason and bought a 13' BigFoot without a front bath.

What age and condition can you accept

Can you do any referb work yourself

How far can you travel to look/buy?

Is your vehicle already set up for towing

What is your approximate budget?

Let us know and lots of help will be forthcoming.....
Good Luck in your hunt.

Thumbs up

Hello Bob,

Thank you for the quick reply and it's comforting to have a community of people to talk to before buying. I will be towing with a 2016 AWD Kia Sportage with Class III hitch. The vehicle has a 2,000lb tow capacity. I'm interested in light/small fiberglass rv's and enjoyed how light the Scamp is but am open to other brand suggestions.

I actually have not been inside one with a bathroom, but only in a friends Scamp who had bunks instead. If anyone could recommend a discussion or somehow see what it's like with bathroom or a video, perhaps I'll can weigh out the decision more. I'm curious what the difference in weight is also with a bathroom.

I'll have to learn how to refurbish if needed and also learn how to maintain over time to keep in good condition. Ideally for me, having to do little work as possible. We'll see what is available with a price range between $5-8,000. Not sure if I should just buy new instead and take out a loan.

Not sure how far I will go to pick up. Hopefully on the north east, south east, or midwest as well as eastern Canada.

Ideas & suggestions are welcomed.

If your vehicle has a 2000lb towing capacity, I'd recommend a basic Scamp without a bathroom, which will keep it within your limits and allow for a safety cushion. Welcome to the group and good luck on your search.
Please read through this thread about trailer weights in the real world, gives you a good idea as to the real weights of campers. http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...rld-43010.html

I camp in a 13footer without a bathroom. I have a porta potti that slides under my bed. I like to camp where there are showers and flush toilets, so I have my porta potti for nighttime emergencies

Hi Rachel,
I too am in the market for a 13' Scamp with bathroom.
I found this video with no dialogue, but gives you a good idea of how it looks with the front bathroom. I will be traveling solo and do not wish to go out in the middle of the night. :-)

Happy Trails to You!
Shari
