...Kevin in KC

We enjoy our '89 13'r all around Kansas & Missouri. Will be towing to New Hampshire and Maine (and back) next month. Honda Odyssey minivan is our TV.

Any advice from those who've taken longer trips? Any "Lessons Learned" after 3,000-mile journeys? Staying at rest areas & Wal-Marts? Woulda/shoulda/coulda's?

So far I've replaced wheel bearings, and did a basic reno incl. new floor, replaced most of the rivets & snap caps, replaced exterior lights with LED's, new spare wheel cover, gel coat over stress cracks, new roof vent lid (the old one was brittle and I've patched it too many times), new door hinges & wx strip, corrected the door-warp, installed A/C (mounted on R-side wheel well under closet), and new cabinet latches. Washed-&-waxed last week. I plan to keep a good coat of wax on it from now on. Thinking about an awning, but I've always taken a 10x10 EZ-up quickie shade.

Anything else I might do?

Have you made any campground reservations or checked to see if they will even be open next month. Figured out a route and what you want to see? We just got back from Maine, been there many many times because son and some friends live there.

We used to live there.
Will be at a wedding in NH, then dropping-in to see some old friends.

Where did you stay in Maine? We used to explore a lot out that way.

Will you be driving it in one day or need a place for a quick stop? We recently went to NY from Chicago, and were on the Indiana and Ohio Toll roads. They are not cheap as far as tolls go, but in some cases that is the way you are going, and they are the best road. What we found interesting is the Ohio Toll Road has several service areas (rest stops -- gas, food, etc.) that were very nice. They had hook-ups for Trailers, nice Bathrooms, and several food choices. We stayed in one just before we got to Cleveland and the I-90 split (the Toll road is I-80) and were very pleased with the place. Starbucks, and Panera inside. Got a bagel at 7:30 and ready to go again. They open at 6:30, but our bodies were still on central time.

That is the way we'll go.
Thanks for the advice on the toll road convenience stops. Hoping to pull off to rest "Scamp"-style as needed.
