Question Leo Roose

Hi I’m Leo Roose
We just bought our first Trillium trailer. She needs a little more insulation. Any advice would be appreciated. She is 42 years old, thanks Leo

Leo, welcome to the FGRV forum. You can gain quite a bit of insulation for your trailer by simply purchasing a roll of Reflectix (looks like shiny bubble wrap) from your local hardware store or building supply store. You cut window sized pieces to “friction fit” over them. This will greatly reduct the heat loss from you trailer.
We tried doing it this summer when we went to Alaska to keep the near 24 hour sunshine out of the trailer.

+10 Windows are likely your #1 leak, so reflectrix or even rigid foam (you wan buy at home improvement stores). I picked up a sheet of the rigid foam stuff, its probably 3/4 inch thick, with aluminum foil coating. Cut to fit as best you can for each window.

I'm going to assume the original Ensolite (closed cell foam with textured vinyl surface) is still in place on the walls. It's as good as any alternative that is practical to install on the curved surfaces of an egg trailer. Not much you can do there. There's no magic about insulation. The R-value is a function of thickness, and there's not room to add much of that in a tiny trailer. You would end up with a bed that's too short, a ceiling that's too low...

Trillium is known for its large banks of jalousie windows. I agree that insulating them will give the most improvement for the least effort and cost. I'd go with Reflectix (foil bubble wrap) for its radiant properties. Pieces of rigid foam in any roof vents will help. Interlocking foam tiles on the floor. Look for any other air gaps you can seal.

You'll want to leave a little outside air flow in cold weather, though, or you'll have condensation issues.

What kind of furnace/heater are you using? It doesn't take much to heat a small trailer.
