I'm confused? I enjoy reading the replies from some of the threads but when I come back to the site, they are no longer there. Am I missing something that I should do?

Are you just looking in the recent threads list on the right side. If a thread doesn't have recent posts it may not be there, but you can find it under the heading related to it, like general discussion etc. one of the Administrators can probably explain it better.
