Hi: cpaharley2008...If, the late Charles Kurault was correct... the Interstate highway system gives Americans the ability to drive from coast to coast without seeing anything. Shunpikers must then be looking for that part of the unseen America.
Sometimes while Escaping we find a road or two less traveled and a lot of America.

Interstates

With you Alfred....

We avoid Interstates except when necessary...like to escape the congestion of the Northeast as fast as possible. The western Interstates are not too bad because at least many of them have little traffic.

Generally we seek the non-Interstates like route 2 across the northern states, route 17 down the east coast or the west's north/south Route 93 or the Pacific coast's route 101.

We consider the road traveled as important as the destination, maybe more so.

Spelunkers bypass toll roads, too,but they are not as above ground about it.

Jan, I sent you a PM. Thanks!

Bob, I think you are exactly right - this is the time for looking and learning. It might be a very good thing that probate takes time, because I'm getting very eager.

Noreen, brilliant! Shunpiker is the perfect name for a trailer . . . and a life.

"We consider the road traveled as important as the destination, maybe more so." Norm, you've said it so eloquently. Thank you. I've been lurking for a while now, and I always find your observations insightful as well as helpful.

Havingfunnow

Like that handle...

My first mentor told me that 'having fun' was the purpose of life, referencing that work should be fun and if it's not find another career.

It's the little pleasant surprises that make the big difference. All these unknown places located in the out of the 'traditional' way are most interesting. It's part of the reason we only cover 20 miles some days.

I think I would have gotten on well with your mentor.
