Looking for a scamp

Hi,

I'm Jim. My wife is Margi.

We have camped (mostly Canada and eastern Michigan) for the 48 years that we've been married. Included in our camping were our friends, our 4 kids and 4 kids-in-law and 12 grandkids. Started with a screen house (try changing in that !), then a combi-camp then increasingly larger pop-ups.

That has become more work than we want to do; so we are looking at Scamps. Actually, we're not looking AT Scamps, we're looking FOR Scamps. We think a 13' with a toilet will do us fine; but we would really like to walk into one and picture ourselves using it and then decide if that size will work.

If anyone can get us started we would greatly appreciate it. We're good for looking in Michigan, northern Ohio or Ontario near either the Ambassador or Blue Water bridge.

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim and Margi, welcome to FiberglassRV. We're glad you're here!

Are you looking to buy new... or interested in a quality used product? Is Scamp and only Scamp on your buying radar?

Good luck on the egg hunt

thanks for the clarifying questions

Dear Donna D

I appreciate those questions.

We are looking for a used one.

So far, the only one we've given much thought to is the Scamp. We want to cut way back on the pull weight (Our '03 escape can pull 3500 lbs - we want to replace it with a vehicle that only needs to pull 1500 lbs); and, so far, the only quality camper that seems to meet that limit is the Scamp.

But, we're open to another light-weight used camper of good quality.

We think we can do with the 13'; but we are accustomed to a fair amount of space and maybe that will be an issue.

Thanks again,

Jim

Jim, educate yourself with the brands on the home page. If you should see an ad for one of these (and more!) you may want to go look. Would be the pits to lose out on the deal of the century.

In addition to the member For Sales here on FiberglassRV and the Referrals, keep an eye on Fiberglass RV's For Sale.

As far as "space," remember our livingrooms are right outside the door.

You might want to take a look at Egg Campers. They have a gvwr of 2500# which may be more than you're looking for but they probably have more interior room than anything else for its size. It's 17 ft. Your Escape should do fine with one. The factory is in Grandville right here in Michigan.

Trailer Size

This is a great site with plenty of mindful owners but nothing beats attending a fiberglass rally for figuring out what you might want. Next to that I would recommend contacting people on the site in your area asking for a visit and a chat.

I know two couples that have traveled extensively in a Scamp 13 and love theirs, Byron and Anne and David and Paula, unfortunately neither live near you though post regularly.

We have a Scamp 16 and love it equally and appreciate it's toilet.
