New Amerigo FG-16 Owner

Hi gang, I am new to the fiberglass trailer group! I just picked up this '72 Amerigo FG-16 while visiting family in NW IN for Christmas. I had been looking for several months for a small hard shell camper & a national craigslist search brought up one close to where we were visiting. Here's a pic my new treasure. It does need some repairs but for a 42 year old it's in pretty good overall condition.
It even looks better hitched up to my old '74 Scout II don't you think?

The plan is to make it safe first......new tires, inspect brakes/bearings and get all lights working. I'll use it for a while & then decide what changes or upgrades are necessary for my needs.

I'm looking forward to learning from the knowledge on the forums here & sharing info about these unique little trailers!

Steve

Welcome to the forum, Steve! That's a good looking rig. I'll bet it was a head turner on the way home! It sounds like you have a good plan. Good luck.

Hi Steve,

Welcome from another noobie!

I gotta pile on with everyone else -- that Amerigo looks perfect behind your Scout.

Enjoy!

Rich

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

I'm sure I got plenty of looks on the 80 mile ride home. Knowing the tires were old/starting to crack I kept my speed below 50 mph & stopped about every 1/2 hour to check for tire problems......fortunately no issues popped (pun intended ) up. The slower speed & frequent stops did take an extra hour for me to get it back.

I think the styling of the Amerigo is accented well by the Scout II, maybe since they were both made in Indiana (Fort Wayne on the Scout, Bristol on the Amerigo) a mere 70 miles apart they shared some styling designs from the region.

I'm looking forward to using it this Summer & fixing up the old Amerigo......hopefully I can get plenty of good ideas for it here from the FG RV forums!
