New Egg Owners

Hi from Maine,

My wife and I picked up our EggCamper yesterday. We found it on Craigslist (and the owner is a member of this forum). We have been looking for the past 2 years for a used camper to travel when we retire. I'm sure we'll have questions as we start camping.

If you check the last three numbers on your VIN, you will know the build sequence. Yours must be one of the very first!

Welcome!

I haven had a chance to talk to the owners of the campground, nor have I looked at a calander for 2018 but because of the Spring Fling this year was the same week as the campgrounds schedualed KOA Camp Care and Mothers Day weekend I may moving it to a week after thier event weekend.
Say a week later next year but keep looking for it top-up in the Rally thread in the Fall.

Hi Eggers!

A few years back I had the opportunity to camp at Freeport out on the ocean. Oceanfront Camping and Cottages in Freeport, Maine | Wolfe's Neck Farm. It was a beautiful location. If it is any indication of the sites you have a choice of, you may never come home.

Hi Tom,

We are picking up our 2006 Egg Camper from GA in two weeks. Any words of advice. Ours is all electric - I saw yours had propane.

I hope it has provided many adventures. We have tent camped extensively but this is our first TT.

Sandy,
Congrats on getting an Egg. We’ve mostly done short trips to state parks in Maine. We look for places with hookups and would be very happy with the all-electric Egg. We tend to do our cooking outside the Egg on a portable gas grill. We haves used the AC and it’s fine, but had to pick up a ceramic heater for cool nights. Be ready for visits from curios campers as it does draw attention.
Have fun,
Tom

Thanks Tom,My husband loves attention so that works
We will start with FL trips close to home to get the hang of it. I like to cook outdoors too but we will equip the kitchen with one or two small appliances for those rainy days. Our EggCamper does not have the microwave so options are open.

Actually you can do a lot of cooking that doesn't cost near as much electric-wise as a microwave. Electric kettle for hot waters-coffee, tea, soups, cous-cous. ! to 2 quart crock pots. An induction burner. A Hawkins 1.5 liter pressure cooker. A toaster oven

DH and I have had several "spirited" discussions about not! using the microwave to heat up water for the morning coffee. He just wants to carry on the old behavior patterns from the house. Actually I have been thinking about introducing the electric kettle into our home kitchen. The generator on the Snoozy moans dispiritedly whenever he uses the microwave, but doesn't even bat an eye when I use the other small electrics. It would only save a few watts here and there, but watt goes around, comes around as they say (intentional pun)

Thanks Mitzi -
The electric part of RV is going to be a learning curve. I appreciate the advice. Any thoughts of how 1300 watt induction plate might affect generator vs. a 1800 watt one?

How many watts is your microwave? What size generator?

The 1800 watt induction plate is supposedly best for searing meats etc. but if 1300 has better sustainability I'll rethink my choice. The electric appliances are just a backup when unable to cook outdoors.

Maybe we will meet at a rally? Signed up for Florida Egg Rally at Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Jan.

Best, Sandy
