New fulltimer

Hi everybody! I'm leaving Georgia for good come June of this year, when I retire from teaching. I'll pick up my Casita from the factory in Rice, Texas, and start my fulltime adventure from there, roaming the Southwest.

Thanks for the welcomes! Weiners, pugs, and rat terriers... what a party that would make!

Sharon, I do plan to start a blog. I'm going to try to discipline myself to record all daily expenses, which will have to be kept in check as my income will be small. I want to help other people see if it is possible for them to fulltime on a tiny budget, especially women alone.

I plan to spend the first year or so in New Mexico.

Glad you asked, Karen.... I chose the 17 ft Liberty Deluxe. Why buy a brand new deluxe model when on a tight budget? Well, I'm frugal by nature... can't help myself!....so I decided this one time I would treat myself with new, new, new... even if I have to scrimp later!

When I first started researching Fiberglass Trailers that is always something that is rarely spoken about and most New Rv'ers search for.
Great Idea. Congradulations! Happy Trails!

Thanks everybody! To tell the truth I'm not sure I will have enough income to survive, but I'm leaping out on faith that somehow it will work. I'm surely going to give it my best shot. Life without some risk is pretty dull, eh?

You could probably find some Camp Host type jobs or such:

And of course I'm sure you've already checked out this topic in the Full-Timing Forum: http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...ers-41797.html

I'd also suggest checking out Technomadia. It's a young couple that full-time in an Oliver. They support themselves through technology, but there's some real good stuff and great reading here: Technomadia On the right-hand side, about half way down is some great links. And be sure to read the Common Excuses: Common Excuses | Technomadia

I'll live vicariously for a while, post often... I need the motivation

Congrats on getting a new Casita. We love ours still so much [compared to home ownership] that we're getting ready to go full-timing in it within the next few months. . .with 2 cats & a dog. Making modifications is half the fun with a Casita though. I have a list of our mods & equipment on my blog just to give you some ideas. Keep reading the forums too for more ways to personalize your trailer. Hope to meet you somewhere along the trail.

You have the same length and model as I've ordered. You know, I have never seen a Casita in person, so it's kinda like I've adopted a child from a foreign country (Texas) and we won't meet until I make the trip! I hope I chose the right model for me. I'm going to avoid looking at any other models until I have bonded with my own egg!

Good luck getting ready to fulltime. It's amazing how much work it takes to shed the old life and start the new. You have more experience than I do knowing whether you will like living on the road.

Hope to see you, too!

Sue

Sue, congratulations on your imminent retirement and hopefully the fulfillment of your RV travel dreams.

If you are looking for travel tips on places to see in New Mexico, over on the rv.net forum there's a Casita [edit: I should have said SCAMP] owner with the moniker "DesertHawk" who has posted many great links and offered extensive advice on that state. You might search for some of those posts over there. Here is one example:
RV.Net Open Roads Forum: Roads and Routes: Roswell to Deming, NM

Happy travels!
