New member with question on buying used Scamp

I am looking at buying 1983 Scamp. Is has a damaged corner and the fiberglass has been repaired (but still needs a new cover on the hole through which the electric cord comes) . There have -- I think -- also been repairs to upholstry due to wear/aging.
The owners have come down over $1000 (to $5000) and are willing to bring it up to my trusted mechanic so he can check the frame, etc.
I am wondering what you veteran owners think of buying a Scamp with damaged/repaired fiberglass IF the frame/body appear to be OK.

My other two more local choices are a 06 Tear Drop trailer (for around $6000) with solar panels or a 1991 Aliner for around $3000 (supposedly in good shape and still sets up smoothly/easily)

Welcome to the site. Lots of great help to be had here. I am not familiar with Scamp value, but there are many happy Scamp campers here who will gladly guide you along.

It would help too if you had some photos, or a link to an ad so people can see what you are looking at.

I moved your post to its own thread. If you want to start a thread, just go to the sub-forum you want to post in, like this one 'Hi, I am...', and click this button to start a new thread.

Hi, and welcome to the group

It's hard to make a guess on damage without actually seeing the trailer.

If this is the Scamp in West Sedona, AZ, I suggest that you look at the posts about it under the Classified - Referrals heading.

Click on Forums at the top of the page and then classified then Referrals. Or use the search feature to search for Sedona, it's in the threads title.

If it is the same one I'd be more concerned about the axle and the title myself.....

Electric cord cover is available from Scamp store, try to call in order and have them ship US Postal instead of online order that is delivered via fedex or UPS. Shipping out of Minn. is expensive via the private firms. https://www.scamptrailers.com/parts-...lectrical.html actually Scamp does a pretty good job of providing parts for older models as well as later models.

Fiberglass can be repaired correctly and is as good as new, or badly. You would have to judge the appearance of a quality job vs. a crude patch. Or get a friend that knows fiberglass repair to take a look.

You can also purchase replacement cushions at the scamp store, if you require these to bring it up to your standards the price of those might be a factor in your decision.

Check out For Sale: Molded Fiberglass Travel Trailers - Fiberglass RV and Molded Fiberglass Trailers | Fiberglass RV's For Sale to get some idea of going price and prior sold prices.

Scamp came with different features and amenities without pictures or description of which floor plan it's hard to figure a "good" price. 13 ft. or 16 ft.? Bathroom? Air Conditioning? Deluxe wood interior? those would all impact value. And value is somewhat regional, an average price in Fla. may be different than in Calif. or the mid-west.

You can find the floor plans here for 13 ft. https://www.scamptrailers.com/showro...-trailers.html
And here for 16 ft.
https://www.scamptrailers.com/showro...-trailers.html

Then when you post more information you can describe it as " 13 ft. floor plan 2 with a bathroom" or whatever it is so people can give more accurate opinions.

Is this the trailer you are considering? 1983 Fiberglass Scamp Trailer -13'

If so there is thread discussing its issues found here : 1983 13' Scamp in Sedona, AZ $6500

As Bob indicated it does indeed look very much in need of an axle, lots of fiberglass repair needed, something strange has happened in regards to a repair on the door and no current title are big issues.

Yes they say its repaired but if you zoom into the photos of the damaged area it sure doesnt look like it is to me.... looks like they very roughly patched the broken part of the fiberglass back into place

To give you some ideas as to the price it should be take a look at Fiberglass-rv-4sale.com and check out the prices & pictures for the same year scamp or close to both current for sales as well as under the Sold section.
