New owner and excited!!

Hello All,
My wife and I just bought a 1977 Amerigo and have big plans to remodel the inside and fix up the outside. We are completely new to the world of fiberglass campers but quickly found out there is a large following. I can understand why these little campers are just cool.
We are racing fans and enjoy travailing to local tracks in the tri-state area. WE absolutely dread the late night drive home! Why not camp at the track and leave when well rested. So here we are new owners of a Amerigo!!!!
Our Amerigo is in rough shape and is completely gutted inside. the outside is in good shape and the over all condition the the fiberglass is good. So we get to custom build our interior. WOW its going to be a lot of work!!!
With all that said I am hoping you more seasoned owners can assist us with info. Is there certain problem areas the Amerigo have that I need to look for? I have NO interior at all and wonder if there is any threads that will give us ideas/plans on how to build cabinets and counters. Well thats a start LOL looking forward to the remodel and meeting new people in the process.

Congratulations on your new-to-you baby! You should hear from other FGRVers soon. In the meantime look up forum members in the "Registry" section of this website. You can look up members by the type of rig. Send them a Private Message (PM) and you should get some great advice. Please post photos of the interior.

You have found the mother of all websites re fiberglass trailers.

Since your interior is completely open, you could look at the different brands manufacturer websites and view their layouts to give yourself ideas.

I don't know about the Amerigo, but some trailer's interior features are glassed to the shell and provide strengthening. Might be something you want to look into before proceeding.

Among the many helpful resources on this site is a document center which contains PDF files of owner's manuals & other documents for older trailers. You can access it at the top right above your login info where it says "More."

Might be a good place to start as you consider what to do with your empty shell. At least you'll know what it once looked like, and it will give you some idea of how the manufacturer distributed weight within the shell. It may also give some clues about how the roof was supported by interior components.

HELLO ALL! Thanks for the welcoming post. I will keep you posted on our progress as we put "our" touches to the Amerigo. The sky is the limit when you have a fiberglass shell LOL I do however have the furnace, Stove and hood so if i decide to incorporate those original components I have them.
