New Owners of a My Pod Maxx

I've been a lurker on the site for quite awhile. DH and I finally made the leap, well sort of a short hop! We recently (April) purchased a Little Guy My Pod, most folks are not familiar with them. They are a fiberglass teardrop. Basically a bed on wheels in a fiberglass shell. No kitchen, no bath, full-size bed, A/C and entertainment center.

We currently have a 4 cyl Ford Escape and didn't want to purchase anything bigger for now. So our trailer had to be something the Ford could handle since it is not really a tow rated vehicle.

We've had it out for several short trips in preparation for a trip to Yellowstone this summer. All is well, we love it and the pups love it - luckily they are "Pod sized" - a dachshund and Chihuahua so they don't take up "too" much room

Interesting, never knew of such. Looks great, just needs a very secure "chin up bar" above the door so you can pull up and swing in.

Yes, there are some special techniques for getting in and out!!

Little Guy also sells a 10x10 or 5x7 screenroom/tent that cinches to the door...provides a little more "living" space. We don't use it for one night stops, but it is nice to have for longer trips where we want a little more space and privacy for dressing etc. and also foul weather protection. It would be a challenge getting in and out in a downpour, keeping the bedding dry would be impossible!!

We like to say it has everything we need and nothing we don't. We're not opposed to using a community bath house as long as it isn't too long of a walk...we'll see how that works at Yellowstone - not sure about the bear situation in the wee hours of the night

I'm hip. I am a "full figured" fellow and drive an older Toyota Corolla. I am quite familiar with special techniques for mounting and dismounting tight conveyances.

I was wondering, do the windows open at all? If yours has the blinds, how do they work (being such an unusual shape)?

Hi Mike,

Yes, we have had fun with it already!!

The windows do not open, but the window on the door does open, it has a nice screen and there is a Fantastic Fan which generates a really nice air flow. I'm actually OK with the windows not opening, one less place for water to get in!

If you look at our trailer from the front, with the black tinted oval windows it bears a striking resemblance to a certain creature from Area 51. We have nicknamed it "Roswell". We even found "Little Green Men" and UFO party lights to string around our screen room...and green LED rope lights. Still looking for UFO themed bedding...thought it would be easy to find but not so...guess a side trip to Roswell, NM is needed

They claim it can be towed by a Smart Car so this might just work!!

Although I don't know where we'd put our gear and cooler we like to keep the Pod empty so we can just pull over, crawl in and go to sleep. Works great for those after dark arrivals. Just have to worry about finding a relatively level spot, learned that lesson the very first night...hehehe

But Smart sez that towing limit is "0" in North America.... But what would they know.

We drove a Smart For4 (4 passenger) all over Italy several years ago and it could barely start up on most steep driveways, much less tow anything. It's no wonder it was discontinued.

I think ideally, the though is that these are a good option for Hybrid cars and motorcycles. On the Little Guy website there are a couple of photos of Pods being towed by motorcycles. There is an owner-shared photo of a guy, his Gold Wing (I think) and his Pod, parked in front of the Biltmore Estate!!

As I have never heard of a motorcycle owner wanting to tow an FGRV, I haven't researched that possibility but, with the advent of the "Little Guy", it sounds like that topic might be right around the corner.....

In my well known opinion; No matter how many peeps do the wrong thing successfully, it doesn't get any closer to being the right thing to do..
