New Surf Side Owners

Hi all.

With a bit of fear and naivety we have become the owners of a 1978 Surf Side Triple E. Probably paid way too much for it, have no idea what type of shape it is in, and really, other than reading the great posts on this web site, have no idea where to begin. Apparently it does not leak and after two months of rain we are confident in this. The heater works well but way too hot if on anything but min. My husband just figured out how to fill the water tank as we are going on our first adventure this weekend. Should be interesting and hopefully a great experience. We have always loved the look of these "eggs". We are going to try to pull it with our 4 cylinder x-trail for the first year.
Some questions:
We are wondering how long to cut the water drain hose? Is there a length that works for most campsites?
Do you all have CO2 alarms?

Cori, Maynard, Daymen and our dog Siena

Congrats on joining the tribe! We were all ready for our maiden voyage when hubby broke his leg!
if by drain hose you mean grey water drain, it just needs to be long enough to reach your bucket. Most campgrounds want all grey water put in designated drain sites. These are sometimes, but not always in/ near your campsite. Maybe others will have more definite responses

Hope your maiden trip is a dandy one!

Hi Cori, welcome to FiberglassRV, we're glad you're here!

I guess I don't understand your question... I've never cut a hose, at least not on purpose.

I know that it is obvious that I have never actually slept in a RV in my life. My poor husband is probably so embarrassed by my post. Oh well...RV'ing 101. I suggested to Maynard that we come to one of the rally's and learn from the experts. Does anyone live near New Westminster and want to come over for a beer and to give a quick lesson?

If you look under the meet/rally section here you will see NorWest Glass Eggs are holding a rally on June 21-24 at the Sons of Norway a few miles outside of Mission if you would like to join us - over 60 trailers registered so far and we do have other Surfsides joining us and a few owners who have owned them previously as well, so lots of folks to around to help you out. No power sites left but you will have lots of company in the non power area (about 40 trailers so far). The NorWest Glass Eggs are the BC fiberglass group so you are not going to find a rally closer to you than this one.

If you wish more info you can contact me or check out the Facebook page through the links below.
