New to Fiberglass and Forum

Hello, I am Steve. I own a Uhaul
My lovely wife and I have always thought the small fiberglass trailers would suit our style.
Well last week I was helping a friend at a neighbors house. There in the barn was a small FG trailer. I called the daughter a few days later.
I thought maybe Mrs. H would be interested in selling as she is now widowed and uses a walker. Mr and Mrs H were our closest neighbors 45 years ago when I was a teenager on my folks farm.
Short story long, the daughter said she owned it, that it was storing her Mom's stuff and to make an offer. It had not moved since 2009 and had not been on the road in over 10 years.
I made an offer based on a two minute walkaround and a peek in the door.
Offer accepted. I brought it home last night.
Outside worst than I thought, inside better than expected.

I will be watching the Uhaul sub. I have already learned so much about the Uhaul from this group. Also probably using the classifieds to buy what I can use and sell what I don't want.

Thanks for reading the first chapter of our latest saga,

Steve

Hello Steve and Mrs. Steve,

Welcome and I look forward to following your upgrades and story.

I'm new here too, and don't have my camper yet.

Welcome to the forum, Steve!

You did well to latch onto a classic. Better used and loved than languishing in a barn. What part of the state are you from? I'm up in the White Mountains.

Happy camping!

NO need to charge off and join some Facebook page, which is like a GIANT CHAT. There are lots of people here to assist. You'll find any brand of all-molded-towable is more similar than different.

Hey Jon,
We are south of you just off I-10. Have you ever been to the Chiricahua Nat Mon?
If so, you could have honked and we would have waved.
By the way, it is pronounced "Cheery Cows" locally.

To Mary and Bob,
But is it "quality not quantity"?

Bob,

We've been 4 or 5 times. One of our favorite spots in NA. we'll be back in 2016/17.

Steve, my opinion is it is quality. Lot of experience with repairs there, plenty of info in the files section, and info on obtaining parts that are unique to the Uhaul campers. Uhauls have odd things about them, like sealed, non serviceable wheel bearings. Leaking windows is a common thing. There is good info here too, but the Facebook site is Uhaul specific with a few non Uhaul owners too. Body bolts is another item you may want to look at. Good list of common problems there, an owners registry, and map of owners locations. Plenty of modification project discussion also. I certainly wouldn't leave this site, just suggesting you expand your knowledge by visiting the Uhaul group.

Mrs BobDog does use the Book of Faces.
Sounds like we should take a look.

I am a Uhaul owner/lover

I have ownered a uhaul for about 6 years and I find very useful info on this site. My father and I redid the interiorid the electric, put new wood cabinet door, made a new table top (although it is too heavy and would like a template of the original shape), put in Corian counter, and new carpet. Have not tackled the leaking windows. I need to find replacement track, I believe, but don't know what kind and where. I did just recently find and replace the door seal thanks to info I found here. But still need to figure out what belongs at the bottom of the door to close that gap. I also just put stick on small gutters over door and Windows to help guide water away from openings. One day I should put pictures on here. I also need to do some minor fiberglass repair. Need to learn about gellcoat. Is it fiberglass, can I match the trailer color, how to do... I have done fiberglass repair on a boat.
Welcome
Gretchen

All that info is on the Facebook site Gretchen, but Donna may be right, just a bunch of chat and nobody should go there
