Hi, Jack is the name, will be picking up our new Scamp 13 at factory beginning of Sept. Am driving a 2017 Jeep Patriot. Looking at extended mirrors for the vehicle when towing. Anyone have experience with the Cipa 11952 clip on mirror? Or is there something better. Concerned about securing the mirror to existing mirrors.

They are not cheap but I found these work great. As long as you tighten them enough they will not require readjustment unlike some of the strap-on styles:

I seen something on this order at RV center yesterday, did not quite appeal to me. Wanted something that did not stick out as much. Cipa does make special unit for a number of autos, but not mine. This was as close as I could come to it.

I'm confused because towing mirrors will always stick out further than regular mirrors.

I have Milenco Grand Aero ( which appear to be the same mirror ). I don't have the weird tear drop shape. Mine are rectangular and flat ( not convex ).
I like that I can adjust the Milenco and the vehicle mirror independently.
By loosening those top knobs, you can move the mirror further out or closer in.

I was looking at this Cipa 11952. I know its a lot less cost and it just seems to not stick out as far.

Hi Jack, I'm going to throw a monkey wrench in the works . You might want to pick up the Scamp first before you get any extended mirrors as the rounded eggs are narrow. On most tugs the stock mirrors are just fine. I bought a set for my Ranger, used them once, the stock mirrors were fine.

Jack, It tried those CIPA mirrors you noted from Amazon. The bits of suction cups on the back all fell off and I ended up having to jury-rig some out of pieces of closed-cell foam. They vibrate at lot and I ended up having to zip strap them on to the regular mirrors. But then of course I had to have a new set of zips each time I used them.


In the end I got fed up with them and purchased these which I've been very happy with and the price is reasonable.

I have used the inexpensive "strap on style for a number of years and many many miles. To use them you have make sure the straps are just about as tight as you get them. I also put as close as possible to the side of my truck so the frame doesn't vibrate as much.
Previous tow I had expensive CPIA mirrors and found very little difference between the two.

Do those straps cover portions of the tow vehicle's OEM mirror?
I like the Milenco Grand Aero because the OEM mirror is fully functional and can be adjusted independently.

I have a set of Fit System #3891 mirrors that are similar to the CIPA 11952 but they have a ratchet tightener for the straps. Straps are on the back of the mirror heads only. Mirrors are convex. Used them on our Honda CRV for towing our Uhaul.

I have the type like the photo. Bran new, never put them on. My rav seems to be ok with out ext. mirrors. The scamp isn't as wide as others. I will try them though, just see if they are any better. Carl

I will throw one more thing into the mix. I found that towing without the towing mirrors created a blind spot behind the trailer big enough to hide a small car. With the towing mirrors that is no longer the case. I did have a motorcycle tailgate the trailer dead center and I didn't realize they were there until they pulled out and passed at high speed (and high noise).

Thank you, that's good to know. I do not know why people do things like that.

I guess it's true, "If you can't see my mirrors I can't see you".

Thanks everyone for the welcome aboard. Been monitoring this site for almost a year in anticipation of getting our scamp 13 built. Thought it was time to jump in and get our feet wet. Will be heading to Scamp in early Sept. Hope to meet some of you on the road.

No they do not cover any part of the OEM mirror surface and they don't interfer with the view, the adjustment, or defogging of the OEM mirrors and believe I paid less that $10.0 each, one for each side.

I have a 13' Trillium and have not felt the need for extended mirrors at all.
