on board from Wisconsin

After a rather short and i might add an enjoyable stint in a pop-up, both my wife and myself nearing retirement are considering a small fiberglass trailer.
I find this sight to be most informative. Thanks to all the contributors.
When referring to size do travel trailers measurements refer to body size or overall size rear bumper to trailer hitch? I think most pop-up sizing is based upon body dimensions.???
thanks again, Ramsey

Frame Length

Welcome to the forum, always nice to have another cheesehead. On almost all travel trailers the length of the unit is referring to the frame length. There is not a dimension you can subtract to get a "box" size as a 13 ft trailer will have a smaller tongue than a 23 ft trailer, plus designs can cause the tongue length to vary.

You are correct. We had a 12' popup which referred to the box size. Now our 13' scamp is actually closer to a 10' "box" length and 13' total hitch to rear bumper. I have not found any exceptions to that general rule among the fiberglass trailers yet, but others here have a lot more experience than I have.

We also switched to a fiberglass from a popup recently. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. If you have questions or want to share experiences, just ask. Welcome to the forum!

Hi Ramsey to FiberglassRV, we're glad you're here.

When measuring an all molded fiberglass towable... it's measured from hitch to rear bumper. So a "13 footer" actually has a "box" size of 10'. You can typically add 3 feet for the hitch/tongue/bumper area for ANY size molded trailer. There are exceptions... larger Bigfoots and the extendable tongue Oliver.

Feel free to ask questions about any molded brand you see.. we'll help anyway we can

Greetings from Minnesota.

If you are able come up to the Duluth, MN gathering in September you would have an opportunity to visit and see many different fiberglass trailers.

Going to gatherings is a great way to get acquainted with people and rigs.

Be sure to look at the gathering map to see which gatherings are nearest you.
