Someday....

Hoping to get on board with a 13' something, someday. We camp for at least two weeks every summer as a family of four and 2 dogs. last year a bunch of lovely Canadians showed up with their 13' fiberglass trailers and we fell in love. (With the idea of a 13' we could pull with our car. &#128526
I happened to check our local Craigslist right then and there and see a 70's Boler, pretty well fixed up for $3200. Had I know how rare these things are on the East Coast I would have acted fast, but I waited till after dinner to call and missed it by an hour.
Needless to say I've been looking since last summer and 0 available anywhere near by. We are hoping for one in that price range- no bathroom, that we can use a home base. I have to say, I love the Boler or the old Uhaul ones the best!
A girl can dream , right?

I'd recommend you do a couple of things before you look at your first trailer. First, look at the thread http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...rld-43010.html. This will give you a more realistic idea of what these trailers really weigh once you load them up for camping. Sellers often claim "under 1000 pounds, can tow with anything." The reality is more like 1500+ pounds for a basic 13'er (especially since you will be traveling with four people).



Second, read everything in your owner's manual about towing. Some vehicles have surprisingly low towing capacity. In addition to a maximum trailer weight, you may also find some caveats about required equipment, like brakes on the trailer. Know that many small, older trailers don't have them.



We are also a family of four, and we enjoy our 13' Scamp!

Thank you! We do only have a 1500 lb capacity with our car, so I will be careful. I'm hoping to get one with no bathroom and stripped down to just a sleeping and gaming space would be great.
Everyone here is so great, it makes me more excited to join the club!

As you may have seen in the Real World Weights listing, ya gotta have one without a bathroom as few, if any, with a bathroom will come in at under 1500 lbs. and can be a bit tongue heavy at that.....

A 13' Scamp with bath & minimal stuff will be over 1500 lbs in a NY minute.

No matter what a seller tells you, have a way to get a weight before buying if their claims seem out of line with what's in the chart.

Just so you know there's another side to the story. We went to a Boler Rally in PEI and many people tow Bolers with small tow vehicles. This year we met a couple at the FL Scamp Camp that have towed a Boler with a Honda Fit for many years.

In as much as the tow rating for the Honda Fit appears to be "0", someone successfully towing a Boler or any other FGRV with one doesn't make it one iota safer or smarter.
