Stolen U-Haul CT-13

Hello everyone - just wanted to put the word out wherever possible - our beloved U-Haul CT-13 was stolen from in front of our house in Los Angeles last night. If anyone see it out there, please let us know.

Just curious, did you have any anti-theft measures in place (hitch lock, boot on tire, etc.) If you did, what were they and do you know how they were defeated?
As I said I'm curious to know what lengths, if any, they went through to get the trailer. It could help others decide what method(s) to use for securing their trailers.

I am sorry for your loss.

Yes, we bought it from Andrew, he did a great job on it. As far as anti-theft, we had a hitch lock on it and I wrapped the safety chains all around that lock as well. If we get it back, we値l put a wheel lock on it and an alarm for sure. We had just used it and had it out front with the cover off, I知 sure that would have been discouraging as well.

As a fellow U-Haul Camper enthusiast that lives in Los Angeles, I'm sorry to hear your camper was stolen. I'll keep an eye out for it! What neighborhood was it taken from? (I also sent you a PM).

Thanks!

- Jim

What a bummer Brad, hope it can be found. One thing that might be a plus, if it gets posted on Craig's list, there are many members here that can recognize it just like was done here.

I don't want any theft or burglary tricks revealed. But, how can they sell it and provide clear title to register it? Seems that would be a problem even if they kept it. Are they modifying serial numbers? Do they claim they built it? Isn't the U Haul brand already taken?

Make sure it hits as many stolen vehicle databases, asap.

Is it easier out of the country?

Thanks, and yes, I am sorry.

PS, that's a great windmill/propeller? on your tow vehicle. When things calm down, maybe you can tell us about it. I expect the solar panels on your trailer powered it?

Very sorry to hear. Hope the @#%^ are caught soon.

What type hitch lock? Standard padlock? One that locks into the ball socket? One that "screws" through latch with no hasp exposed? We use one of the latter and wonder if it its enough.
