Is there anything I need to look for on the signed title so I know it will be good when I get to Florida? Little brother just confirmed that I do have the right to haul the trailer home after buying it. I agree about leaving the previous owner's plate on it till I can get to the license bureau at home.

You can call the motor vehicle registration office in your county in Florida and ask them what is required.

Might be useful to check for a website first. It can be hard to get an actual person on the phone these days.

You've got the signed title along with a bill of sale all dated and you're traveling from the pickup point to home. One other point, if the plate doesn't have a current year tag on it.....different story, that can get you pulled over . In CA when a used vehicle is sold, the buyer gets the signed title and a BOS, the seller keeps registration.

So, how does the trooper know that you didn't steal the plate?

If the owner doesn't want to let you use the plate to travel home (and then trust you to mail it back, so he can turn it in, as required in some states), then you can probably get a temporary tag, good for a week or so. Don't go through Massachusetts, though, as this absurd state doesn't allow temporary tags. I think most, if not all, others do, however.

Haven't bought a used trailer yet but I appreciate the help. Learning a lot here. Baby brother also Insisted he look at any used trailer I am thinking of buying and he would repack the bearings before he would allow me hauling it to Florida.

Just checked one of my titles Glenn, the plate and VIN number are listed on it.

Might work then, if owner will give up plate.

In my state, the state requires seller to keep the old plate and turn it in.

Bill of sale is all you need for transporting a trailer that you have just bought. Crossing the border requires more of course, as you are importing the trailer.

Most of my vehicles and trailers were bought out of state. Its not a big deal.

As far as Casita's having rotten floors, ALL campers with any kind of wood floor WILL rot if you don't catch leaks. I looked at a three year old 13' Deluxe Scamp this spring that looked like it was at least 20 years old. You could see where water had sat in numerous places. That's not Scamps fault, that's the owners.

We owned a Scamp for six seasons and a Casita for five. We have NEVER had water condense on either the Scamp or Casita's walls. We like to camp in October and November, in below 20 degree weather, sometimes waking up to snow on the ground. We don't wake up to water on the windows because we crack the ceiling vent a little, like you should. Upon waking we immediately boil water for coffee and open the vent a little more. Yes, water will condense on the windows while boiling, but is usually gone a few minutes after turning the stove off. If you don give yourself some ventilation any camper will have problems eventually.

Enjoy,

Perry

Perry, how in the world can you camp in a Casita in sub-freezing weather without the pipes and tanks freezing? It's not an all-season trailer. Or do you winterize and then not use the Casita's plumbing?

Some have posted dryrot. You can get a non wood floor in Livin' Lite, Oliver, Happier Camper, Snoozy, Parkliner, airstream Nest, and armadillotrialers.net

You can hand flush with a jug of RV antifreeze Lynn, and not use the 12V water pump.
