Audi Allroad, 2003, tow-ready, $12,500

This might be the most luxurious, powerful and elegant tow vehicle you can buy for a price in the low five figures. If you don't know, the Allroad is a mid-sized German station wagon with unique features that make it a towing champ. There's a self-leveing air suspension that varies ride height from 5 to 8 inches. A twin-turbo V6 provides 250 hp through permanent all wheel drive. The chassis is very strong and safe, and the leather interior is pure German luxury car. It's rated to tow 3,500 lbs in the US, but tow gear is rare and pricey. I've installed a European Bosal hitch with removable gooseneck and ball that's approved for that full load. There's also a Prodigy brake controller installed.

It's a wonderful car, but I've had bad luck with it. After spending almost $2000 to set it up for towing, the car experienced a cooling fan failure while towing up Vail Pass and the head gasket blew. The car is fully repaired, with a head job, radiator and fan replacement done by the best Audi shop in Denver. Everything works great now, and the car is covered by an aftermarket extended warranty that helped me with about half my costs of repair.

But our other cars have had breakdowns, and house breakdowns, you know how it goes...Now, my wife and I need to move our debt into a new car loan. That's the reason we're selling. Our loss could be your gain.

Here's some background info on the Audi allroad:

SOLD! Well, traded for a new VW Tiguan. Maybe I'll be able to afford to camp again.
