Scamp Motorhome 1985 $4500
For sale:
1985 Scamp Motorhome on Ford Ranger. This has the 5 speed manual transmission. It has 56,800 miles on it. It runs and drives great! Has stove, refrigerator, kitchen sink, electric water heater, bathroom with stool, sink and shower, also has furnace. No air except the truck air that worked last season, I haven't tried it yet this year. This unit has no major issues I know of. I put a new windshield in it last year as the seal was not good and it had a crack in it. It now has no leaks. The unit is clean and very presentable. This is a great little unit that they didn't make too many of. If you are interested please email me at user10136@msn.com

I'm thinking this might be a Skamper and not a Scamp.

Entirely possible it IS a Scamp, they made a few motorhomes back in the mid-1980s. Wished it was on the WET coast , I'd like to take a look
Pictures?

Hi all, thanks for the replies. I'm new here and am trying to find my way around.
jwcolby54, I don't see how to post pics. When I placed the add there is a button to upload video but it didn't look for picture files. I'm sure I'm missing it. If anybody can give me a little help I will post the picture I have and more when I take them.
mcbrew, it is definitely Scamp made right close to home here in MN. As I understand it they made like 12 of these back in '85-'87 or so. A couple were on a Toyota chassis and a few were on a Dodge, most of them were Fords. I've been told the Dodges at least were automatics and very underpowered. The best driving ones were the Fords with the manual...or so I've been told.
Donna D, I wish you were closer so you could see it too! I will try and post pics when I get it figured out or someone tells me how.
Again thanks all for the replies.

Ok I think I see how to do pictures. It looks like I may need to have them hosted some place like photobucket and then post a link. Is that right? I will try and get that done late today. Unfortunately I will be on the road today and can't get it done before that.

Can you tell us the engine size and average mileage and size of the gas tank. It is a pretty little thing. I used to own an early nineties Dolphin on a Toyota chassis. It was a straight 6 IIRC and was a little underpowered. Not as bad as the 4 cylinder they also built. It got between 11 and 16, but averaged at the low end of that range.
Pics of the inside would be nice.

Sorry I haven't been around to answer questions faster. I was gone all day today and will be for the next few days. I will do my best to answer as soon as I can.
Ron, thanks for the help I think I have inserted 3 pics in this message.
Chris, it is still for sale but I have had great interest in it! Thanks to all for that.
JWCOLBY54, I'm embarrassed to say I don't recall what engine it had at the moment. It is a V6. I still have the unit at the place I stored it for the Winter so I can't check on it right now but will soon. So far mileage has been in the 12-15 range. I think the manual transmission helps with this.
Also I don't try and drive it real hard. I will also get pics of the inside in the next day or two. Thanks.
I really appreciate all the help and your patience with me as I try and get things together here. What a nice bunch of folks here!
These pics were taken last year but they are all I have right now. I will tell you a few things. Since then I have sanded and painted the rear bumper. The strap hanging down in the one pic was a strap for the grey water tank. I have since replaced it also. It had not been cleaned up here at all. All the black stuff on the top was I think tree sap/mold, it cleaned off great with a little elbow grease. It looks pretty good now.

Cool! I had no idea that these existed. Sorry I doubted you... But I have had a number of occasions where someone looked at my Scamp and said, "yeah, we used to have a Skamper, too." They meant the truck slide in campers, though.
It looks really neat. I'm sure it will sell quickly!

This is really cool. Given how little the Ranger changed over its lifespan, you could probably move the Scamp part onto a last run Ranger.

For those of you interested in RV history, especially with regard to nomenclature:
This is a perfect example of the design that is the originator of the "letter typing system" of motorhomes. ("Class" A/B/C) And as a "Class C", it's the ONLY letter-designated type whose letter actually stands in for a meaningful word.
"C" stands for "chassis mount", and signifies that the camper was added to a fully functional existing brand chassis from which the whole body except for the cab area had been removed. I think the first ones appeared in the early sixties and were then marketed as "chassis mount campers", for obvious reasons since they were really truckcampers permanently affixed to/replacing a pickup truck bed. All of the early ones were on truck chassis, as this one is. Use of vans came later.
At that time, "motorcoach" was the word used for self-propelled from-the-ground-up units, but somewhere along the line some bright boy hit on the idea that by calling those "Class A's" and originals like the chassis mount "Class C's", a whole new belief system would be created that the "A" is superior to the "C". And he was right.
I love that there are little Chassis Mounts like this one out there, and have always thought it would be great fun to own one!

mcbrew, no worries! I knew what you were saying and people do mix things up like that all the time.
jwcolby54, I don't think I answered all your questions. I believe the engine is a 2.8 V6. Somebody emailed that to me as a possibility since it was a Ranger option at that time and it rang a bell with me. I'm not positive about the fuel tank size but from what I have put in it a fill ups I would guess it is a 20 gallon tank.
