Carl, yes I am going to close that bank account to be on the safe side. However the bank basically said every time you write a cheque it has your account # on it and that there is not a lot someone can do with it. They also added that of course any fraud is covered by them but why risk it.

Glad to hear you got your money back. I had a friend many years ago, that is a sharp guy, purchase a Jesse James motorcycle for $27,000 over the internet. Had a friend go look at it, all verified, he sent the check, afraid he would lose the bike. The problem was, this knucklehead sold the bike 5 times. He went to jail( 2 years), my friend never received any money back.

I guess the moral is- anyone can be scammed if it's something they want, bad enough. I had another friend that claimed he could never be scammed, because he had no greed-and greed is often the prize dangled by the con artist. But he was duped by a "Swaddled Infant" con (look it up). It is based on peoples sympathy and he got away cheap at only $60.

Meh? It happens, especially if you use the site search and don't notice the date on the posts. These scammer issues do crop up often enough to make this thread as relevant today as when it was written.

Tis the season when folks are buying outdoor stuff....
