Alf how does that work? How do they know if your insurance is current? Here in BC you buy the plate when you register the trailer and you can keep it and register it to a new trailer also but you need to purchase insurance and it is then you are given a valid tag to put on the plate - which shows the date the insurance is valid until.

You have to insure a trailer? Not here in Maryland. Car insurance Usually covers anything in tow. Stickers on cars and trailers are good for two years. $102 every two years for trailers up to 3,000 pounds.

Tabs on my 13' Scamp cost me a whopping $13 for the year and insurance is $74 for the year. Not too bad I think.

Yes. Here in BC the trailer must have totally seperate insurance. The cars insurance does not cover anything you tow.

Hi: Carol H...In Ont. you have to sign a doc. stating you have ins. and provide a policy#...Swear on a stack of Provincial Throne Speaches...turn around 'till you're dizzy...pays your fee and SCRAM...with the plates!!!

From my Minneapolis cop friends - you won't get a ticket if the tabs are in your possession, but not on the vehicle. I believe if you are willing to "appear" you can forego the ticket with proof of purchase. I received a citation from the county where my permanent camper sits. I didn't think of buying tabs since it doesn't move. I had to pay for back years. Now my Jayco and Scamp always have up to date license tabs.

Brenda, that sounds fishy to me. That would mean if you had several junk cars in the backyard they would have to have current tags too, as I said b4 the governments are broke and will do whatever to get money.

Yep. I got my PTI plates in 2007, so they'll have to be renewed in 2012. But that's just paperwork with nothing to put on the plates themselves.
