ok, I have a lead on another one...let me know what you guys think. 2012 13' all factory in immaculate condition. It has factory A/C and 3 way fridge. 8.5k is the final number we are talking. Seem like a good price?

Look here to get a feel for what Scamps have sold for in the past. These are advertised prices, but my guess is that not a lot of discounting is going on in this market.

ok, this helps. Looks like 8.5k is definitely very fair. I dont know if it is a steal but it seems like a good price

Or you could wait a month and pay about another $1000 for the same trailer. This is the time of the year when prices are going up, up, up and buying quick, esp in states like CA and FL can become the only way to actually buy what you want.

All that said, be sure to have a few $$$ tucked away, there WILL be after purchase expenses. Repacking bearings, new tires (how old are those on it now ???), registration & taxes and outfitting your vehicle to tow, just to name a few.

Good Luck

But, if your hard upper limit is $5000...

ha..right. Funny how that changes when a deal comes along. I am thinking about really stretching it to get the 2011. It just seems like 18 years of wear and tear would be really nice to avoid for another 3k.

Yup, I can see that... One other possibly minor consideration. Once a Scamp gets to be, oh, x number of years old, it is done depreciating, and its value is based entirely on condition and curb appeal. The $5500 one is such a trailer. The 2012 still has a little depreciation left before it grows up.

So, what I'm saying is that with fiberglass, your aren't so much SPENDING the money as "locking it up". Think of it as a long-term CD. When you decide to sell, you could likely get all of your money back on the one, and most of your money back on the other. This is true of fiberglass, but not so much for stickies. The interest on the CD is paid in fun.

By the way, "Factory Original" is always a value-add. Many people, like yourself, like a clean slate, and don't want to be wondering about workmanship.

That is exactly what I was thinking. It seems if I get this for 8.5k and take very good care of it there is no reason it would not still be worth 8k in a year or two which is something you dont find true with many other things.

NADA Pricing for RV's is always, always much lower than reality. There are several theories on this but, suffice to say, I would buy a whole fleet of 2012's for those prices and make a 40% profit on the open market in CA in less than 15 days on Craigs list. Last summer we sold our then 8 year old 2004 13' front bath, Scamp for over $10k in less than a week.

The 2012 also has more headroom. A plus for most people. We are short and I really like our lower profile. Most everyone is taller, so height must be a plus.

In the old days I thought Scamp put the air conditioner under the closet, before roof top units were used.

Let's see now that's 19 years for $3K ... approximate cost difference of $157.89 per year for wear and tear.

Its largely a matter of what YOU prefer. I like older trailers for the same reason I prefer the charm of older homes to new homes. So go with whatever you prefer. I think the price is actually okay if it is truly in good condition. You'll have to go through the checkllist and verify the condition yourself. And look closely. The PO of my trailer told me the tires and battery were "new". The tires looked good and the battery worked so I believed him. Later, found a plug in the tire and was advised to buy new tires, and the battery would not hold a charge. I should have checked those things closer but trusted what the seller told me. Or the plus side, it is a great trailer, and I'm glad I bought it.

You know the NADA price is probably low for most Scamps. How many people really order a Standard model without any options and Scamp offers a lot of options. You have to consider what options the trailer has.

I couldn't agree more. Plus with all the mods the difference is even greater. You are now starting with a "new" unmodded scamp, much more of a known value.
