Most of the private campgrounds in my area especially ones that adjoin water are going seasonal. Trying to find a private campgrounds that will rent a site for one or two nights is almost impossible .I understand the motivation for the owners of these private campgrounds to go seasonal , less work and a steady source of income. A friend of ours just bought a 67 site campgrounds and according to them they need between 40 to 50 seasonal sites to break even , they cannot make it if they depended on drive ins. If we want to go camping for 3 or 4 days , we go to a County or State Park but with the funding cuts to public parks that may only be a temporary solution.

A well balanced article.
It does illustrate some of the advantages of small fiberglass RVs.
I have often been offered a small site,or a site too difficult for a Bulgemobile to use when the campground was ostensibly booked up.
Not all RV travel requires a campground with woods and a campfire.
I would welcome a lot beside a motel with WiFi and hookups if I were on a trip where my activities were all offsite.
I once got a great campsite at a gas station/C-store which was $7 per night with a fill-up . Right on I-80 next to the dugpond which was used to make the overpass. It had hookups and cable tv and the C-store had hot food....
