I think perhaps Greg may have clicked the Publications and Forms link which shows a date last modified as 2009-02-24 at the bottom of the page. I wouldn't assume the site is wrong because one of their pages shows an old date. it's more likely the date on that page wasn't updated.

I have heard the same. I also heard there is a solution, one can make a substantial payment, I heard $1,000. The catch is that the payment is for each crossing and it is not refundable. It allows only a brief visit. The dollar amount will vary because most sources reccomend hiring an imigration attorney.

Canada does not like DUI's. Just a note, these rules do not only apply to drivers, they effect anyone entering Canada.

Last year when we crossed at Niagra Falls, we had our passports but it took awhile bease we were towing a camper. Patrolman laughing that I had a "disrupting the peace" citation in 1970. Had no idea they tracked so hard.

The passport card is half the price of a passport book.

Canada USA Travel

There seems to have been some needless discussion about travel between the US and Canada.

Please check this site:

The Embassy of the United States of America - Canada
Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) requires all citizens of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda to have a passport or other accepted document that establishes the bearer’s identity and nationality to enter or depart the United States from within the Western Hemisphere. ...

Land and Sea Documents

WHTI requires travelers to present a passport or other approved secure document denoting citizenship and identity for all land and sea travel into the United States. WHTI establishes document requirements for travelers entering the United States who were previously exempt, including citizens of the U.S., Canada and Bermuda. These document requirements are effective June 1, 2009.

Most travelers will require one of the following documents:

* U.S. citizens: A passport issued by the U.S. Government, a passport card, a valid trusted traveler program card (FAST, NEXUS, or SENTRI), an enhanced driver’s license (EDL), a Military ID with official travel orders, or a U.S. Merchant Mariner Document.
* Canadian citizens: A passport issued by the Government of Canada, a valid trusted traveler program card (FAST, NEXUS, or SENTRI), or an EDL.
U.S. and Canadian children under the age of 16 will be able to present a birth certificate or other proof of citizenship. See the CBP website for more information about children traveling with a school or religious group, social organization, or sports team.
You can see that the current regulations came into effect June 1, 2009.

Requirements for entering Canada are found here:

Safety and Security - Admissibility
Canadians Returning Home

Make sure you carry proper identification for yourself and any children travelling with you to assist in confirming your legal right to enter Canada.

The Government of Canada recommends that Canadian citizens travel with a valid Canadian passport because it is the only reliable and universally accepted travel and identification document available to Canadians for the purpose of international travel.

Non-Canadians

If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a passport to enter Canada. However, you should carry proof of your citizenship, such as a birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization, as well as photo identification. If you are a permanent resident of Canada or the U.S, you should bring your Permanent Resident Card with you.
A US citizen traveling to Canada needs to consider both what is needed to enter Canada and what is needed to return to the US.

So it looks like our standard Florida Driver's License would not cut it. We'll have to get something else. Not necessarily a passport but some other form of accepted identification and proof of citizenship.

Thanks e'body! I just wasnt looking in the right place for the info. I kept finding contradictions.
