I had a completely different experience... After we brought home our new 19' Scamp
, went to DMV to register it and they TRIED to give me a PTI at the DMV. Silly mi, I correctred them and told them it didn't qualify. But, then, I have always FIRMLY believed in honesty and Integrity. I **NEVER** have a problem correcting a clerk who gives back too much change. Same thing.
That said, DMV **CAN** be quite the pain - I would say in the neck, but I actually have a much lower opinion of them. I DRAGGED the trailer 25 miles down to the DMV office... TOLD them it was there... and they did their thing paperwork thing... and then a MONTH down stream, got a letter from DMV saying that I had to have the VIN
verified. I could either bring it in to DMV or have a Peace Officer do it. I downloaded the forms, and the Police in our small town do VIN
Verifications for free on something like Wednesday afternoons. So I just puilled it over to the local Police Officers' Station and didn't have to go ALL THEY WAY back to DMV. AND Didn't have to deal with the lines and the "poop".
If you are registering in California, TAKE IT WITH YOU and insist that the clerk perform a VIN
verification while you are there.
