What's it worth

I got tired of paying insurance, taxes and upkeep on my GMC Yukon only to drive it 2 or 3 times a month so I sold it.Now I dont have a tow vehicle so I dont know if I am going to get a more economical tow rig or maybe sell the camper.
So,with that said I was just wondering what it's worth. It is a 1976 Scamp 13 in pretty good condition with no leaks. The frame is very solid with only surface rust and there are no cracks in the fiberglass. The upholstery is ameature but it looks nice.I also have the original books that came with it.

Stuff is worth whatever you can get somebody to give you for it. Start high. You can always go down but not up. I guess that wasn't helpful even if true.

Assuming you have something else to drive but can't tow with it why don't you sell that for a unit useful for all purpose. That little thing can be towed with most anything. I have a 16' Casita that my minivan can handle. I can carry a lot of stuff in my Chrysler Town & Country with those stow-n-go seats. What are you driving now?
I'd say you should be able to get at least $2500.

I am driving a 2011 Civic now and I average 34 mpg's so I'm definately not getting rid of it.I am thinking about getting a 4 cylinder truck but I really dont want the costs that come with an extra vehicle.

A Civic, eh? What transmission? Unless it's a CVT, I personally would entertain the idea of putting a hitch on it and... well, YMMV, literally. My '84 Omni (93 HP, 99" WB ) towed an egg that size for several thousand miles, albeit slowly!

One extra isn't all that bad. The two of us have 5 vehicles registered, plus one motorcycle, one boat, and 6 trailers. Four of the vehicles have hitches. It's nice to have a backup vehicle if one breaks down. My insurance agent loves me. The only good part is they are all paid for!

My Civic has the automatic transmission and it only has 11,000 miles on it.The car has a 48,000 mile powertrain warranty on it and the manual say's that the car is not designed for towing a doing so will void the warranty.

Too bad they dumb down the tow rating for the US market. In the UK, Honda rates the 1.8 liter Civic to tow 1,100 pounds without trailer brakes and 3,080 pounds with trailer brakes. Tongue weight rating is 165 pounds. We had a trailer hitch on my wife's previous car -- a 2000 Honda Civic automatic. Never towed thenScamp with it, because we always used my Scion xD with its more powerful (128 horsepower) 1.8 liter engine.

The funny thing is,when I was shopping for a new car the dealer's website had this car listed with a tow rating of 1000 pounds but the manual say's that towing will void the warranty.I just checked the same dealer's website and all of their civic's show a 1000 pound tow rating.

In the spring I could see you getting 4,000.00 for it 13 foot trailers do have a good market.

I'd think if you kept it now that the Ford Ranger is done there will be some good deals on used ones at cheap prices.

Brian, do you keep your eye on the Molded Fiberglass Trailers | Fiberglass RV's For Sale site? Search the For Sale and Sold ads for Scamps. I'd think closer to the $4000 level too, if it's all in good condition and ready to go.

You gotta love the mysterious tow rating craziness. My xD was rated to tow 1,700 pounds in Europe, but rated for zero pounds here. Not only that, but the US manual says you can't even carry a bicycle! My dealership never mention my trailer hitch... Even when I stopped by with my Scamp in tow! My Outback is rated for 2,700 pounds in the US, or 4,000 pounds in Europe. My VW Golf was rated for 1,200 pounds in the US, but could tow 3,200 pounds in Germany.
