Battery monitor trimetric 2030 VS Victron BMV700

I interested in the advantage and disadvantages of these units.

I already have spent a little more than i wanted to on my set up. But am thinking it might be worth having a battery monitor

system so far

200AH agm battery
100 watt panel on roof
100 suitcase panel
30 amp adventure PWM controler

the victron would end up about $60 cheaper

I installed a Victron BMV 700 in my camper van which has a 460 amp battery bank and a 654 watt PV panel array. I generally keep the display on the percentage of full charge setting but it has a number of other useful display modes that I generally haven't taken advantage of. One reason I bought the Victron is that I also have a Victron MPPT 100/50 solar controller. Victron seems to make well designed high quality equipment that sells at a competitive price.

I have the Trimetric with the companion SC-2030 Solar Controller. I don’t know a lick about the other one so I can’t compare.

The Trimetirc is a geeky R/V’ers dream. Read the manual for details. You can even do a serial interface to your computer for all sorts of data analysis. But very few people will ever take advantage of all it can do, and even a geek is likely to only use the basic functionality after getting it set up.

Where the Trimetric really shines and with the companion solar controller. If you you do get the meter, you should give serious consideration to dumping your current controller and getting the SC-2030 with temperature sensor also.

Lastly, the support (Bogart Engineering) is second to none. The R&D and Tech support is part of the price you pay.

I also use the Trimetric TM-2030-RV and love it! I think every camper should have a monitor just to keep from drawing down the batteries too far. I also mostly just keep it on the % full setting. It had good reviews, and has solar companion ability (I haven't used that yet).

Don't know anything about the other brand.

It is my opinion these were intended for large installations. Look at the size of the shunt. The smallest, the100 amp shunt means most RV applications are using this in the lowest 10%. I question the accuracy. As far as letting you get more out of your battery, how much more? How much longer will your battery last? The cost could pay for a new battery. I wonder after a year how many even bother looking at it. I use a $10 meter and get all the info I need. Raz

I also have the Trimetric, because I also have their controller. I agree that for just monitoring the battery(ies) it is probably over kill. But I hope to take advantage of its' increased capabilities when coupled with the controller.

I would choose based on the ecosystem. I'll be going with Victron because I want to use their ColorControl GX control panel to keep from having one monitor/head/display for every device, not to mention its cloud-based monitoring capabilities. All of their products seem to integrate nicely and people who have written about their Victron systems seem happy with them (Technomadia for example).

I've got the Victron and also got the Bluetooth dongle, because I'm worth it. I can read it and control it with an app on my android phone. I love it. Nobody else understands but you people might.
