Best Shore power cable

Need some advise on what shore power cable to use. I have an Progressive dynamics 4045 fuse panel. Are there different types and or style i need to look at or is that a go to cable. Any help would be awesome THANKS!!!

Some of your decision depends on your power needs. You need to have a cable rated at or above your maximum current needs, typically 20 or 30 amps. There is a special cable type listed as an "RV Power Cable" that is more robust than common cable.


All that said, as my maximum power consumption (with a PD-4045 main breaker of 15 amps) is fairly low, I use a common 12/3 x 25' outdoor extension cable on the rare occasion when I connect to power.

Bob I am taking your reply as to connect/wire in a 12/3 HD extension cord directly into the PD-4045 is that correct.

Not exactly... I have a 15/20 amp 3 pin disconnect on the trailers outside wall that's connected to the PD-4045 and then I plug the extension cord into that input.

What provisions are already on your trailer for a power cord? Casita uses a standard 30 amp RV cord hard wired to the converter. There's a hatch on the side of the trailer with a cutout just large enough for the cord. The cord is stored into the area behind the converter.

Wal-Mart has 30 amp RV extension cords and you could cut the female end off to hard wire it. Or you could mount a hatch cover that has a male 30 connector that would allow you to disconnect the cord and store it somewhere else. Or forget it.
