I do take it personally- but only because I'm
emabarassed in behalf of my unbelievably suggestible Fellow American Consumers.
My hat's off to Honda- I've owned more than one of its products, some of them dating back to the time when Hondas were characterized as "rice burners", unworthy of consideration by Redblooded Americans. Effective advertising has mightily changed that image, for sure. This not to deny that certain of its products, at least early on, helped to win that battle. But along the way, it learned something about us, too.
The Company is to be congratulated for its really thorough absorption of the marketing principles proven so effective by American business. This of course includes its understanding of the "say it loud and they'll not just believe it but defend it" concept; the effectiveness of which can be no better illustrated by the lack of indignation expressed in this very thread about the clear deceptiveness of the advertising for its generators.
Really brilliant, actually- folks who know that the noise bothers their neighbors can assure themselves (against the real evidence) that they're operating a noise machine that's no more annoying than a neighbor's "ordinary conversation".
Nothing sells product like making folks feel good about themselves!
