centurion 3000 in 16' scamp

So, I'm going over the new trailer and making a to do list. First order of business is determine all of the problems.

It appears the centurion 3000 converter/power center for this trailer has a problem on the 12V side.

There is a fairly large silver heatsink looking piece that is not at 90 degrees with the circuit board. At first I couldn't get any 12V things to work/battery is hosed. But after taking the screw driver and moving that heat sink around all of the 12V pieces fired right up. Messed with it a bit more and the power fluctuated.

So I assume this is hosed and I need to pull and replace with something else. I found this:

WFCO 8735P Power Center
and read elsewhere is was a drop in replacement for the converter in the Scamp, is that the case?

This kind of topic makes my head hurt. Do you have a question we can help with? What are you trying to accomplish.. exactly?

Sorry that was rambling and not clear.

Just wanted to know if anyone has had issues with the converter in a 16 foot scamp, and what if anything they replaced it with.

WFCO is the Yugo of power converters and, while inexpensive, are known for a high board failure rate. Scamp used to use them and has since dropped them.

My weapon of choice is the Progressive Dynamics PD-4045, I have installed about 7 of them, including in my own Scamp, They are available on line for about $160 and will upgrade your electrical system/converter/charger to 2015 standards.

Thanks for the information.
Do you know if the Progressive Dynamics PD-4045 is a drop in replacement for the current one in my trailer, or will I have to modify the cabinet to get it to fit?

"Drop-In" No, easy to install? Yes if you have basic mechanical & electrical skills and a few tools. It was in the left dinette seat wall.

In replacing an American brand converter in out Scamp I had to enlarge the cut out slightly and re-do a few wires.

Remove the centurion 3000 converter and take it to an electronics repair person. The problem is broken solder joints on the pc board. If you have a hobbyist friend, you may get it fixed for free. All that bouncing on the road is hard on converter parts. Mine had problems also until I pulled it out and re-soldered the broken joints. Use hot glue to stabilize the large parts on the circuit board when you are done.
