Converter Recommendations?

I just found this unit at www.adventurerv.net . It's a WFCO 25amp Power Center. (WF-8725-P). Since this includes the charger, AC and DC breaker circuits and mounts into a reasonable-sized cutout, it sounds like a really good deal $89. I wouldn't need to buy all the pieces separately and figure out how to mount it all. Anybody know anything about this unit?

Suffice to say that WIFCO does a booming busines in selling replacement mother boards for their power centers. (check on line)

The WIFCO 25 amp center the factory installed in our Scamp was smoked once before we bought it and I tossed the entire box when it smoked the second time shortly thereafter. At $89, they know what their product is worth......

Our 2013 Coleman hybrid has a WIFCO power chassis and I am just waiting it out...

If you shop around you should be able to find a Progressive Dynamics PD-4045 for under $160.

There have been some atwood panels on ebay lately. It sounds like you are rewiring. This will give you a 55 amp converter, plus a wiring panel for 120 volts and 12 volts. Do a serch for atwood converter and you should come up with 3 sellers with the product.

PD 4045 is $172.99 at vintage trailer supply. They have others too.

The Atwood converters that are offered on eBay from a surplus source look to be new, but very old stock. Or at least "Old School" in that they have older style component circuit boards. For the limited budget this offers an opportunity.

The others, that are newer style & more expensive, are still very basic and don't offer a three stage battery charger, as do the Progressive Dynamic converter/chargers, for about the same money.

on eBay. Re-manufactured, what ever that really means. Good brand and it has the whole breaker box in one unit.

That's actually a PD 4045, which is an excellent choice. However you can buy them new wih factory warrantee for $145.00 at Vintage Technologies, see post #26 above.

Me thinks you mean the 4045, Tom. The 9245 is stand alone with no distribution panel. I know because I have 9245 bolted to what's left of my Newmark.

If you get the 4045, check the 12 volt circuits. On mine a couple of the numbers on the wires didn't match up with the fuse number. Probably a rare occurrence, but it saved me some confusion by using an ohm meter to check them. I only used 6 of the 12 circuits. Study the wiring diagram that comes with the converter, it can be a little confusing if you're not used to doing wiring. The 12 volt section has to be connected to a breaker as I recall, and if you use a battery disconnect switch like I did there is a jumper that has to be removed.

Depending how that factory wired the 110 black wire. When I first set it up, the battery kept discharging. It seems that that the black 110 wire on the front of the converter was wired to the exteme lower right to the AC Hot to the converter. I just reconnected this wire at this point to a 110 sub breaker and all is well now.

Moving the black AC power wire for the converter isn't mentioned in the instructions and, as discovered, it won't work until it is connected to a breaker.

Accoring to PD, that small terminal buss on the right side of the case was put in for a Canadian requirement. After moving the converter power wire, I used the strip for a very useful ground bus.
