I think more opinions will not establish the FACT that brakes are or are not needed on a 13' Scamp. And I think we have pretty well hashed this out; let's put the brake on it for now. My Scamp has no brakes because the previous owner did not pay for brakes, and because my Scamp has almost no accessories so is light, and because my PU is a V6 with ABS and Factory Tow Package. But if I had to put on a new axle or if I bought a new Scamp 13', I would order brakes. It certainly wouldn't make it worse !! You can all do what you think is safe . . . . as long as you don't run into me ! David in Fresno and Sonora

I used to tow the Little Joe without trailer brakes, until I got the Outback. Then to get the higher tow rating, I added trailer brakes. I have often been thankful I did.

Has it occurred to you that trailer brakes are there, not for us 'safe' drivers, but for the nut case that comes ripping around you and once in front stops quickly on a downhill Oregon grade?

You will also save on the cost of replacing the TV brakes. I can buy a pair of loaded brake pans cheaper than disc pads and rotors for 4 wheels, not to mention the labor costs if I pay someone else to do it.

Have you actually had the trailer weighed, or is the 950 lbs the dry weight listed by the manufacturer. That dry weight figure usually doesn't include appliances, propane tanks and such.

Good luck stopping.
