I'm personally against wiring a trailer negative to its frame for any reason other than a ground to earth.

I put attach studs in for the positive and negative sides with 18" or so long leads from the converter. It makes it easy to disconnect the converter when needed, and easy to wire the grounds.

From what I see when looking at factory schmetacs is that the negative wire goes to the frame just like automobile wiring.

I've since found out my charger will do about 20-30 amps for charging. Since it seems to be a big issue remoting the battery, I will just install it next to the existing one with a circuit breaker of course. I was trying to get my tongue weight adjusted. I will do it another way.
