Pete, I have LED flashlights with AA cells as well (including a MagLite)... but they are not so easily disassembled to see what might be in there other than just the LED. The MagLite replacement module certainly does look like there is more to it, but it's hard to tell because it needs a mounting base anyway to fit in place of their standard incandescent bulb.

We're on the same page about the consistent use of the AA size.
